Lindsey Graham: 'I See No Way Forward,' 'Never Been More Depressed' Over Border Funding Standoff

The government shutdown is a mess.

I don’t mean it’s creating a mess for the country; the shutdown is only partial, and I’m personally content with a smaller federal government. Putting aside, for a moment, federal employees and their ability to support their families (which is its own issue and a substantial consideration), how about we don’t “reopen” and just see what happens? But if they’re gonna be closed, can we cancel Congress’s paychecks? I think they’ll be fine for a while. Maybe we should divide their would-be earnings among the out-of-work government staffers.

Anyway, the shutdown is a mess, politically. Reasonably. Goofily.

For a whole lot more on that, just see here.

It’s a mess.

And Sen. Lindsey “Eye of the Tiger” Graham doesn’t expect improvement any time soon.

Speaking to reporters Thursday afternoon, Lindsey had this to say:

“I have never been more depressed about moving forward than I am right now. I just don’t see a pathway forward. Somebody is going to get some energy to fix this.”

As I covered previously, the President’s said he’ll likely declare a national emergency and move ahead with the construction of a wall without the endorsement of Capitol Hill (here). When asked if the upper and lower chambers would prevent Trump from going that route, Sen. Graham made no promises:

“I think the House would for sure. I don’t know what I would do. I’m open-minded to it being a crisis. The statute is pretty clear that you have to have congressional buy-in. Some people worry about the precedent you set on our side. Whether you could hold all the Republicans, I don’t know. Whether you could pick up a Democrat, I doubt it. So at the end of the day I don’t know if this bares fruit.”

As for it being a crisis, a considerable percentage of Americans agree — just see here.

And if you also wanna see how fantastically on fire Lindsey’s been lately, take a look here and here. He’s been kickin’ butt!

But he’s wanting to end the shutdown, if possible: Five congressional GOP’ers met with the South Carolina conservative Thursday to discuss an immigration-oriented bill that would shut down the shutdown. See more about that in the video below.

Until that happens, expect Lindsey “The Savage” Graham to keep shutting down Dems over their refusal to support the security of the United States.
