White House Slams Dems Over Shutdown: 'It's Up to Them'

The Democrats seem to have painted themselves into a corner. They’ve tirelessly harped on the racism of a border wall.

That, incidentally, makes no sense.

Now, even as they claim to believe in border security, how can they give in to any funding for the “racist” wall?

Meanwhile, illegal border crossings have increased by 90% over the last two months.

Way to go, goobs.

In all the political nonsense of calling Trump a white supremacist over the wall — which is just one manifestation of the Left’s drive to vilify the President by any means possible, combined with a continuing maneuver to lock Mexican votes on the other side of any amnesty and from so-called “anchor babies” — collateral damage has been comprised not only of illegal entry but the ills faced by the Central American migrant caravan and the burden of Tijuana in assisting them (here, here, here, here, here, and here).

In other words, the Left has created a giant freaking mess.

On Monday, White House Director of Communications Mercedes Schlapp told Fox & Friends that it’s up to Democrats to stop the government shutdown:

“It’s really up to the Democrats, in the sense that we’ve offered them a deal. We’ll see what they come back with. Our goal is to get somewhere between $1.6 and 5 billion. I mean, this is so ironic that it’s the Democrats, like Schumer, who said that we need strong border security, where Durbin has said that we need to find a bipartisan solution to border security, yet they are not willing to budge, at least at this point, in terms of providing funds for a physical barrier in that area. … And the mere fact is that at this moment, if we want to make border security a bipartisan issue, the Democrats need to step up to the plate. It’s up to them to stop the shutdown.”

Just days ago, Chuck Schumer stated from the floor:

“So Mr. President — President Trump — if you want to open the government, you must abandon the wall. Plain and simple.”

A Fox host asked about the impact on Trump’s contingent if the wall doesn’t go up:

“Do you worry that it would have a demoralizing effect on his base, if he does not deliver it?”

Mercedes laid it out:

“Look, this is not about the President’s base. This is about the safety of the American people.”

At present time, it seems to me, the Democrats aren’t operating based on the American people, but rather, politics at its worst. Which, oftentimes, is to say merely politics at all.
