Exaggerate much?

Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday, Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez made an audacious claim: whether Democrats win the day in November will determine the survival of American democracy.

Good grief:

“Our democracy is on the ballot. This is not simply an election about right versus left. This is an election about right versus wrong.”

In other words, this is an election about right versus left. Because, to Democrats, right is wrong and left is right. No wonder they’re so confused.

Can we stay away from absurd statements? It’s like I wrote recently about conflation on the part of the Left (and the Right); I’ll forego further explanation, since you can read all about it right here.

Let’s just get down to the nitty gritty of Tom’s worldview:

Democrats = Virtuous
Republicans = Evil

Democrats = Love
Republicans = Hate

Democrats = Godfather 1 & 2
Republicans = Godfather 3

Democrats = Swatch, and Timex Indiglo/Ironman
Republicans = That generic watch your mom got you at Bargain Town

Democrats = Levi’s 501 Blues
Republicans = Those no-name jeans your mom got you at Zayre

Democrats = Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones
Republicans = Beats
[That’s some free advice; you’re welcome]

Now that that’s settled, on with the article…

The DNC head was quick to mention healthcare:

“Your healthcare’s on the ballot. … This (election) is about all of those critical issues of healthcare, but it’s also about who we are as a nation.”

Perez struck at President Trump, including his critical remarks over the indictment of two GOP congressman and his supposed policy of separating children and adults at the border (in reality, this was not merely a “policy,” but adherence to law — see here).

“A president does not tell the Justice Department who and who not to prosecute. … This president has undermined basic principles of our democracy. Presidents should unite, they shouldn’t divide.”

Does he mean like the way Obama brought together the country? Democrats always castigate Trump for his divisiveness; Barack wasn’t exactly the Glue of the Century.

Speaking of: guess who’s on the campaign trail? Yep.

Talking it up at the University of Urbana-Champaign Friday, Obama excoriated the President:

“He’s just capitalizing on resentments that politicians have been fanning for years, a fear and anger that’s rooted in our past but is also born out of the enormous upheavals that have taken place in your brief lifetimes.”

Says Barack Fan Obama.

Perez noted the former leader’s virtue:

“[Obama is] fighting for the issues people care about.”

So Trump isn’t? Is that why he won the 2016 election?

The President has predicted a coming red wave (which I covered here); however, a Washington Post/ABC poll suggests a 14-point advantage in the midterm elections for the House.

Yet, as host Margaret Brennan asserts on Face the Nation, “When we look at our CBS polling, it shows a blue wave is far from guaranteed.”

Perez’s dumbest statement was easy to identify; in my estimation, it’s among the dumbest of all political rhetoric. Are you ready…brace yourself…this will be shocking news:

“This is the most important election of our lifetime.”

It’s finally here! Ring the bells!

It’s arrived! The most important election of our lifetime!!!!!!!! We’ve seen so many impostors come and go, but this is it!!!!

One thing’s for sure: it may or may not be the most important election of our lifetime, but it will impact the remaining potential effectiveness of Trump’s presidency and, therefore, the chance for conservative policy to affect the nation. As I’ve said once before, let’s hope that November comes like the divided waters in Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments — its appears as a blue wave, but it’s actually the Red Sea.
