RNC Chief of Staff Resigns, and She's Not the Only One

The Republican National Committee seems to be bleeding some staff, including, today, their actual Chief of Staff. But that doesn’t mean it’s over any differences or a result of any presidents.

Sara Armstrong has been with the RNC since way back in 2009. That’s a long time in political terms. Before that, she worked at the Bush White House. This year she was the chief executive officer of Trump’s inaugural committee.

Now she’s the sixth, staffer to depart in the last month alone.

Of course, they’ve also hired 62 people in the last six weeks. So don’t light the bat signal just yet.

Politico reports:

[Armstrong] had been serving in the chief of staff role since early this year after helping to oversee President Donald Trump’s inauguration planning.

Richard Walters, the RNC finance director, will serve as interim chief of staff while the committee seeks a permanent replacement. RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel has begun that search.

Armstrong is the sixth staffer to leave the RNC in just over a month. That includes a handful of aides in the committee’s data department who left recently amid a change in departmental leadership. The wave of departures, coming less than a year after the 2016 election, has surprised the tight-knit world of Republican operatives.

Armstrong is an RNC veteran, having worked at the committee since 2009. During the 2014 election cycle, she was named deputy chief of staff. In 2016, she helped to run the national party convention.

Armstrong will be moving to a new position as vice president of political affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber announced today. It is reported she is departing on good terms.

A lot of turnover, not necessarily related, but then again, the public isn’t always given the real reason when someone changes jobs. Then again, again, as I said, job times are short in politics. In any case, the RNC might be hiring if you’re looking for work.
