The suspect was apprehended by the Santa Monica Police Department. From the Washington Times:

A man with assault weapons and a camouflage outfit in his car was arrested Sunday in West Hollywood and told police he was headed for the Gay Pride Parade.

The arrest comes hours after Omar Mateen, a man who reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS, attacked an Orlando gay club, killing 50 people and wounding 53 more in the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil since Sept. 11, 2001.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

The car had Indiana plates. The man made comments that he was in town for the Pride event in West Hollywood this weekend. The source said authorities did not know of any connection between the gay nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla., early Sunday morning and the Santa Monica incident. The investigation has been taken over by the FBI. The source said the man appeared to be white.

A city official in West Hollywood also confirmed the arrest and stressed that officials were beefing up security at the gay pride event.

“They found him with weapons that were very disconcerting,” said the source, adding officials are “taking the appropriate safety precautions.”

It is important to note that more than just many weapons, the individual was carrying five pounds of Tannerite, an explosive material, according to ABC.

In light of the morning’s events, it strains credibility that the situations are unrelated, but so far that is the official word. If more information becomes available we will update you.

UPDATE: Shooter’s “arsenal” included bomb making materials, according to CNN.
