We all know already that the most thorough and complete betrayal of his base that Trump could ever commit has already committed. It’s about money, of course, and is the perfect example of the lies he told, and how quickly and utterly he will fail to practice what he’s preached. I said last week that Trump has decided to become the puppet. Now we know who will be pulling the strings: Sheldon Adelson.
That’s right. To the brain-exploding tune of $100 million dollars. Read it and weep, Trump army:
Adelson pledged the amount to Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, during a meeting last week in New York, two GOP sources told The New York Times, which first reported the story.
This is the most Adelson’s ever committed to a campaign and, it should go without saying, far exceeds any amount of money from a single source taken in by any other GOP candidate during the primary. That matters because those much lesser sums were apparently enough for Trump and his voters to be absolutely certain that those other candidates could not be trusted, being that they were therefore puppets of their donors. It’s his reasoning.
In fact it is not just his reasoning in general, he actually said it specifically about Sheldon Adelson just a few months ago. No I assure you that I am not kidding.
And yet that’s still not all. In addition to buying Trump, Adelson is going to stop supporting other GOP candidates in other races!
From the New York Times:
As significant, Mr. Adelson, a billionaire based in Las Vegas, has decided that he will significantly scale back his giving to congressional Republicans and direct most of his contributions to groups dedicated to Mr. Trump’s campaign. The two Republicans familiar with Mr. Adelson’s plans spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
So he’s going against his own philosophy, his reason for being, one of the two primary selling points among his supporters and from his own mouth countless times. He’s drawing this huge money to himself and away from down-ticket races, potentially losing Congress and the other selling point: that laughable notion that he would be more supportive of Republican legislation than Hillary would. So he’s undermining both the “he’s better than Hillary” settlers AND the rabid fan base. Neato.
Of course, that fan base is very, very rabid, so this betrayal may not turn them against him. But wait, what’s this?
Mr. Adelson and his wife, Miriam, met with Mr. Trump and his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, at the St. Regis Hotel in Midtown Manhattan while Mr. Adelson was in town for a gala dinner to benefit the World Values Network, an organization dedicated to disseminating Jewish values in politics, culture and media.
Uh oh, Trump fans. The “J” word. It would be wonderfully ironic the man who courts the alt-right lost them over something like this. But we’ll see. They really super believe he’s going to build a magic wall, after all.
In any case, from now on, do feel free to call him a Trumpuppet. It certainly fits. You know, according to the rules Trump outlined for us for the last year or so.
