Femisogynist Spirit: Rooting for Abortions on Prime Time Family TV

Last week, before the airing of an episode of Friday Night Lights on NBC, feminist sites were gleefully discussing the fact that a teen-age character was pregnant and contemplating an abortion. They were not only gleeful, but were actively and proudly rooting for her to have the abortion and for NBC to air the episode. An example from a post at Feministing entitled “I’m rooting for an abortion this Friday night”:

In the real world, abortion is one of the most common surgical procedures in the country and more than a third of American women will have one by age 45 . On TV, however, unexpected pregnancies usually result in a baby without even a mention of the “A” word. If a character does consider abortion, as Private Practice ’s Maya did last season and Grey’s Anatomy ’s Christina did in Season 1, it typically ends with an 11th hour change of heart or a convenient miscarriage as a last-minute cop-out….

And I want all the teenage girls watching who may one day find themselves, like Becky, unexpectedly pregnant and very scared to know that they too can have an abortion and that life–and football–will go on.

Safe, legal and rare, huh? Well, rare unless you have super fun football games that you must attend. Safe, legal and rare – yet also a most common surgical procedure, with claims that one-third of all women will have an abortion? If you check the statistics, that number doesn’t actually bear true, thankfully. However, only a femisogynist would not only try to claim that one third of pregnancies end in abortion, but would also intellectually dishonestly try to spin it into a positive and an attempted rationale for an insane argument. To anyone else, that’s a devastating, horrifying and incredibly sad statistic.

But, what else can one possibly expect from the Pro-abortion rah-rah sisterhood? Earlier this year, the same site had a post encouraging women to proudly brag about their abortions:

Women are never ashamed to say “Oh I had a vaginal delivery” or “I had a Vaginal Birth after Cesarean” or even talk about their tubal or biopsy.

Stop being ashamed!
Stop avoiding the “a word” and get it out there!
Women should not be forced into a closet, or live under a shroud of shame for having an abortion!

SAY IT LADIES!

abortion….. Abortion….. ABORTION!

Come on, ladies! Empower yourselves by live tweeting your abortions! Watch family fare on the television with your daughters and say “Oh, I hope she aborts that baby — just like I should have done instead of a pesky old boring vaginal delivery of a living child. If only, sigh. I could have been so proud of myself! Abortion!”

And again, several months ago, Jessica Valenti lamented the fact that another tv show, MTv’s 16 and Pregnant, didn’t have any brag-worthy abortions. They apparently refuse to accept the fact that more and more young people today are trending Pro-Life.

They refuse to accept it because they are not pro-choice. They are pro one choice only. They are striving to make abortion the default choice, because, as always, it’s not about women or children. It’s purely agenda driven. Identity politics and gender-based political wedges are their bread and butter. They use fear to keep women in progressive line by keeping them perpetual victims. They diminish motherhood by convincing people that it’s a form of enslaving punishment. They have devalued life to the point where it is now expendable at one’s convenience and even for one’s own convenience.

In this instance, sadly, the femisogynist cheerleaders got their wish. The episode, which had been previously aired on DirectTv, did air on NBC. And the character, high school sophomore Becky, had an abortion. Of course, they won’t “root for” counseling for Becky. They will deny, always, the trauma that abortion may also cause to the woman. They deny the very existence of post-abortion syndrome and the life-long guilt and pain those women bear. Instead, they will  rejoice at the thought of killing a baby who isn’t timely.

Because it’s not about being For The Women ™.  It’s not about being safe, legal and rare. That lie has been completely exposed.  And there are over 50 million dead fetuses who can attest to that fact.

As for me, I’ll root for motherhood. And I’ll root for the unborn babies.

Licentiousness

It’s a focus on sin, no matter the cost.

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

Once They Filmed Abortions Live...

Repair_Man_Jack (Diary) Thursday, July 15th at 4:38PM EST (link)

It was a movie called The Silent Scream. Maybe Feministing would like to see that one aired in prime-time. Or not….

Wonder if they’re interested in celebrating THAT?

I mean, lady has an abortion on an inconvenient child… should be worth seeing, right?

I think that some women what others to do it so they can justify their own actions

It is kind of like when it comes time for the reunion and you hope that your friends gained more weight than you did. I know that oversimplifies the argument for some, but no one said that these people were complicated.

I don't think you've oversimplified anything

You’re given witness to a fundamental human trait – the desire for good. We all have an awareness of good and evil, we were born with it. We desire what is good and abhor what is evil.

All throughout our existence, men have sought to deny that what they were doing WAS evil, so repugnant is it to the integrity of the human person. Witness Adam, after the Fall, trying to distance himself from his sin – it was the woman that God had put there with him who had sinned, he was just her victim, duped by her.

We all make excuses for our less than stellar behavior, many of us lie to ourselves about the seriousness of our offenses. One of the most often used is the lie that we haven’t done anything at all to be ashamed of, since it’s common in our family, group of friends, town, culture, society, etc….

The evil committed in every aspect of this terrible, terrible act of abortion, whether by the government that pays for it, the advocates who affirm it, the doctors who perform it or the woman who seeks it is so great, that it must be deemed good so that those involved can justify their own actions. If they were to acknowledge that it is totally evil, with no individual merit, (save that of increasing the wealth of the “providers” ) and no societal merit. They would not be able to do these things. That is why no discussion of the life of the child in the womb can be permitted. That is why the emotional, physiological, and psychological cost of abortion to women and their families must never be acknowledged. They would have to admit complicity in evil, the one thing we are hard-wired by GOD to find repugnant.

Abortion = freedom and equality
Homosexual unions = social justice
Eminent Domain = community prosperity
Wealth Redistribution = elimination of poverty

Would anyone reject the concepts on the right side of the equation? Of course not, because they are all, in themselves good. That they have nothing to do with the concepts on the right, is why they are perpetually being linked to them, in order to whitewash them,…oops i mean sanitize them. I did not mean anything racist by that.

“By their deeds shall you know them.”
“Woe unto you who call good evil, and evil good.”

He was right then, and He’s right now.

Just like the new movie “The Kids are All Right” is about lesbians raising “normal” children, altho’ evidently no one in the movie is normal except that A-list stars play the characters: Annette Benning and Julianne Moore.

Vote with your feet.

I predict very few people will go watch this. nt.

The preview looked like the humor was forced and awkward. It is like they were trying too hard or something.

I think Hollywood has run out of ideas.

SirGladiator (Diary) Thursday, July 15th at 7:01PM EST (link)

These people are so evil its unreal. Thank you for exposing their insane pro-abortion comments once again, it’s certainly a shame that a major network would air such a pro-abortion TV show, we can only hope that the outcry and protests they get will cause them to think twice before doing something so horrible again. Promoting the murder of innocent children isn’t something that good, sane people would ever do, these feminists have gone way off the deep end, and now NBC is out there with them, it’s quite a shame.

"Rooting for an abortion" That's a little much,

throwback59 Thursday, July 15th at 7:35PM EST (link)

don’t you think, Lori?
That would be as evil as ” rooting for Fidel Castro” or “rooting for failure in Irag” or even “rooting for the death of Tony Snow.”
Liberals would never do any of those despicable things, right?

or maybe they would.

Jewels Friday, July 16th at 11:55AM EST (link)

heh.

If they didn’t, they’d have to be confronted with their own stupidity, failures, and murderous acts.

No one wants to think of themselves as murderers… so blame the prolifers for that guilt your feeling!

“Women are never ashamed to say “Oh I had a vaginal delivery” or “I had a Vaginal Birth after Cesarean” or even talk about their tubal or biopsy.”

That’s because women who give birth to babies have nothing to be ashamed about. We wouldn’t be proud to go around bragging about killing our baby (aka “abortion”).

Parents?

SteveLA (Diary) Thursday, July 15th at 8:13PM EST (link)

This isn’t a show I watch, but where were the parents in all this drama? Involved in the daughter’s life, helping her make a decision about her pregnancy and her future or doing something else?

From the RINO side of the house, how about we agree at the very least that there should be zero problems for any Republican supporting laws that require parental involvement in these decisions for any child under 18, and that’s what a 16 year old cheerleader in this show is. I’m also realistic enough to know that Ozzie and Harriet were just TV parents and there’s a lot of really terrible parents out there, so judicial bypasses are part of the deal.

Is it possible

mikerazar (Diary) Thursday, July 15th at 8:23PM EST (link)

that more women than admit to it are secretly pro-life? In many crowds being pro-choice is, well, expected. Do you think there are women who would never have an abortion or encourage anybody else to, yet pay lip service to the pro death message? Maybe they are a silent majority, whose secret ballot is pro-life?

Or am I just another clueless male? (yeah, yeah…I know I am anyway).

We have a nation to save, people.

As a proud parent of 3 healthy boys

jmadisonfan Thursday, July 15th at 11:53PM EST (link)

I find it truly horrifying that some people actually think this way, and it makes me sad to think about the 50 million lives that were snuffed out in the name of a “choice”. We consider our children to be a gift from God, especially because we know too many couples who want to have children and can’t. From the first time my wife told me she was pregnant to the last, I never lost my amazement at the delicate choreography that must take place in order for a new life to begin.

16% of white women, 79% of black women

Uma Richie (Diary) Friday, July 16th at 9:21AM EST (link)

Lori, as always your article is spot on. God has blessed you with a perfect combination of wisdom and humor. When my daughters are teenagers, you will be required reading in our house.

I wanted to point out that the statistic that 1/3 of American women have abortions by age 45 very possibly breaks down to 4/5 of black women and 1/6 of white women.

Given:
1. Thirty percent of abortions occur to non-Hispanic black women, 36% to non-Hispanic white women.

2. About one-third of American women will have had an abortion by age 45.

3. Black women make up 12.67 percent of the US female childbearing population. White women make up 75.12 of the US female childbearing population.

Data points one and two are from Planned Parenthood’s research arm:
http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html
Data point three was derived from the 2000 US Census information on females ages 18 to 64:
http://www.census.gov/population/www/cen2000/briefs/phc-t9/tables/tab03.pdf

Then in a random sample of 1000 US women over 45, about 127 will be black, about 751 will be white, and about 333 of them will have had an abortion. Of the 333 who had an abortion, about 100 of them will be black and about 120 of them will be white.*

Black: 100/127 = 0.79
White: 120/751 = 0.16

So 1/3 of all women having had an abortion by age 45 translates into 16 percent of white women and 79 percent of black women.

*I could not find data that would allow me to weigh repeat abortions by race, so this analysis assumes that the percentage of repeat abortion women does not vary across race. For the sake of argument, if the average number of repeat abortions is 0 for white women and 1 for all other races the percentages work out to:

Black: 50/127=0.39
White: 210/751=0.28

This still shows a disparity against black women.
