Except for Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter, probably no media figure on the right has sold out as hard for Donald Trump than talk show host and Fox News contributor Laura Ingraham. As a result, her name is often floated as a possible press secretary for the new President. Today Ingraham makes her pilgrimage to the garish golden monument to bad taste to meet with the emperor.
TODAY IN TRUMP TOWER: Rex Tillerson, the CEO of Exxon; D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser; Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad; radio host Laura Ingraham. Tillerson is in the mix for secretary of state; Branstad for ambassador to China, and Ingraham, perhaps for White House press secretary.
Ingraham has said she is open to considering the position but she reportedly wants to be involved in making policy instead of just spinning it for the White House Press Corps.
The popular conservative-radio talk show host is willing to accept the position of White House press secretary in Donald Trump’s administration, but she wants a bigger title, a role in policymaking and a seat at the decision-making table with the president, according to a source familiar with the discussions.
Bucking for a bigger role than just being the new administration’s designated liar could mean Ingraham wants to steer the lifelong liberal Democrat she helped elect toward the right.
Officially speaking for Trump would be a lot different than just campaigning for him on her radio show. Even for a hardcore supporter, that job could turn out to be soul crushing under a President who has a history of saying virtually anything that pops into his head. It may just be a case of Ingraham setting up an excuse for not taking the job without stepping on Trump’s toes.
