Did you hear that scraping noise? That's the sound of goalposts being moved. This time, it involves that thing that happens rarely if ever, according to the legacy media, although it sure seems to keep happening. Namely, people voting who shouldn't be.
As yet another case of an illegal alien registering to vote and then casting a ballot has emerged, Politico, that bastion of the left-tilted legacy media, has been forced to admit that, yes, there's a problem.
That’s because Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill disclosed last week that a “software error” at the Motor Vehicles Commission led to roughly 6,600 noncitizens getting added to the state’s voter rolls. About 400 of them voted, she said.
Her disclosure set off a political uproar that’s resonated well beyond New Jersey, feeding into the Trump administration’s push for voter restrictions and setting up a legal battle with the Department of Justice.
We've covered that right here at RedState:

Here's the onion (emphasis added):
But it also exposed an open secret about New Jersey’s so-called motor voter law that officials and political operatives have known for years: There’s little to stop noncitizens from registering to vote if they want to, or even by mistake. And election officials and campaign consultants from both parties believe that the number of noncitizens being added to the voter rolls is significantly higher than the 6,600 Sherrill cited — because the state has been automatically registering drivers since 2018, and her figure covers only June 2023 to June 2024.
“It’s the honor system,” said Hunterdon County Board of Elections Administrator Beth Thompson, who also leads the New Jersey Association of Election Officials.
The honor system. For voter registration and voting. With this admission, Beth Thompson just made the strongest argument for the SAVE America Act that it's possible to think of. We can't place the security of our elections in the hands of an "honor" system, certainly not in a time where the amount of honor in the general population seems to be thinning out.
In the latest case of an illegal alien registering to vote and then casting a ballot, a woman from the U.K., one Ada Ngozi Otuka, registered and voted in Texas, not once, but several times over a span of years; she's now pleaded guilty to illegal voting by aliens and false claim to citizenship.
Woman named “Ada Ngozi Otuka” from the UK illegally votes in American elections in Texas in 2012, 16, 18, 20, and 24.

Now she’ll face the full force of the Law.
Our republic can only function when elections are free, fair, and secure.

That isn't a fluke.
Here's the thing the left and, honestly, some on the right don't get. This isn't just a matter of numbers. There's a matter of principle at stake. If it's wrong for 10,000 people to vote illegally, it's just as wrong for one person to vote illegally. Our registration and voting procedures should be robust in preventing this; the only acceptable number of illegal votes cast in our country is zero. While the SAVE America Act may not quite drive that number down to "none," it sure as shooting will get us a lot closer than we are now. And, mind you, there's no reason why states can't pass such laws for themselves, as well.
Fox News' Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume, as always quick with a pithy and biting remark, commented:
Maybe it's time for commentators and politicians to stop scoffing at people worried about noncitizens voting in US elections. https://t.co/Q7tk87Um3O

Maybe so. But I won't hold my breath for it.
