DOJ Drops Letter on Newsom: Men Out of Women’s Prisons Now

The entire matter of "transgender" people and the ideology that has grown up around them has two particularly egregious issues: The first is allowing boys and men to play on girls' and women's sports teams, which is hideously unfair to the actual girls and women on those teams. The second is the equally stupid and more dangerous practice of housing "transgender women" inmates - men - in women's prisons.

Several blue states are still adhering to this practice. On Thursday, U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon sent a formal letter to the state of California's Governor Gavin Newsom, informing him of an investigation into one of the state's penal facilities over just this kind of lunacy.

AAG Dhillon's letter begins:

I write to inform you that the United States Department of Justice is commencing an investigation into the Central California Women's Facility (CCWF) and the California Institution for Women (CIW) operated by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The Department will conduct this investigation under the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act (CRIPA), 42 U.S.C. § 1997, and the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000 (RLUIPA), 42 U.S.C. § 2000cc. This is official notice required by CRIPA.

Here are the specific issues that the DOJ will be investigating:

During this investigation, the Department will determine whether California engages in a pattern or practice of violating the constitutional rights of female prisoners incarcerated at CCWF and CIW by housing and providing preferential treatment to biological male prisoners in these prisons, resulting in harm to such female prisoners. Specifically, the Department will investigate widely reported allegations of deprivation of female prisoners' rights, including freedom of speech under the First Amendment, freedom to exercise religion under the First Amendment, protection from cruel and unusual punishment under the Eighth Amendment, and equal protection of the laws under the Fourteenth Amendment.

There can't be a punishment much more cruel and unusual than subjecting women inmates to the very real possibility of sexual assault by men masquerading as women.

Assuming this is happening in these California women's facilities, and I suspect it may very well be, there's another question that should be answered: How many of these men are genuinely suffering from gender dysphoria? My guess is "few, if any." I won't go into the possible motivations of these men working the system, deliberately and cynically, to gain admission to a women's prison. You, the reader, can work out their likely motivations on your own, but none of the possibilities are pleasant. Like the men and boys who are agitating to be allowed on women's and girls' sports teams, these men are taking advantage of a social contagion to gain some advantage to which they are not entitled, and the Democrat politicians who have some say in all this remain silent, because they are, frankly, afraid of their far-left "woke" base.

AAG Dhillon isn't having any of it. This investigation, hopefully, will start the reversal of this stupid policy.

We will be watching with great interest as this investigation unfolds. Stay tuned.
