Desperate men will often attempt desperate acts. We've seen some of this in Iran, where the ruling Bronze-Age theocracy is facing an ever-increasing groundswell of opposition from their own people. The regime has resorted even to gunfire, but as of this writing, it doesn't look like the Iranian people will be deterred.
So, instead, Iran has unleashed a threat against another target: President Donald Trump.
Islamic republic state TV just crossed a red line. Airing an image of President Trump after an attempted assassination (by the regime) along with a Persian message reading “this time, the bullet won’t miss.” This is a direct threat against the President. pic.twitter.com/g4UUwnxEYX

This is a direct threat, yes. The New York Post has more details:
Iran issued a sickening threat against President Trump Wednesday, broadcasting a picture of the commander in chief during the 2024 Butler rally assassination attempt — with the words “This time it will not miss the target.”
The ominous warning was aired on Iranian state-run TV, Agence France Presse (AFP) reported.
It marks Tehran’s most direct threat yet against Trump, following his repeated threats that the US will strike the country if it continues its brutal crackdown on anti-government protesters.
Now, remember the dire straits the Iranian regime finds itself in. This may very well be an emission of what my late Navy veteran uncle would have called "stack gas," although in this case I'd use another origin for the hot air so emitted. The mullahs, after all, have a long history of their mouths writing checks their butts can't cash.

Then again, precautions are in order, nevertheless. This is a threat aimed directly at the President of the United States. Every American should be concerned about this, although you can color me skeptical about the level of concern most Democrats would have. But yes, this should be causing some furrowed brows among the agents of the president's Secret Service detail; here's why, and I'm going to tell you.
We all remember this moment from the 2024 campaign:
The perp that took a shot at President Trump on that day, while he did give us one of the most powerful political images of the century so far, was a lone crackpot, and came, literally, within a hair's breadth of killing a former president and current presidential candidate. Now, mistakes were made in the security in that event, but I will not rehash those now; the point stands. Thomas Matthew Crooks was a lone crackpot, and he very nearly succeeded.
Iran, on the other hand, is a nation-state. No matter how screwed up, no matter how bedeviled by sanctions and by its own people, Iran still is a nation-state with all of the resources of a nation-state. Worse, it's a hostile nation-state that has almost certainly infiltrated operatives into the United States, very likely during the Biden administration's shameful non-enforcement of immigration law and border security. It wouldn't be surprising to learn that some of the Iranians who have entered the country are trained operators who may be much more effective than Thomas Crooks.
And if Iran acts on this - even an attempt - that should be the cue for our War Department to bring down the Iranian regime, with the full power, might, and wrath of which this nation is capable.
Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump and his administration’s bold leadership, we are respected on the world stage, and our enemies are being put on notice.
