I've commented frequently on religious wars and how they are some of the nastiest wars of all. But civil wars can be just as nasty; any society that tips over into, literally, neighbor against neighbor, family member against family member, city against suburb, suburb against urban - now that would be ugly indeed.
Democrats, right now, in these United States, sure seem determined to drive us to that ultimate event. Of course, they think that their side, being righteous and woke, will win. That's not surprising; one of the defining characteristics of leftists is the belief that they can make anything happen if they just wish for it hard enough and shout and wave signs. But in recent days, again, we've seen them go rather farther than shouting and waving signs with mind-numbingly dumb slogans professionally printed on them. Now they are attacking federal law enforcement, and only hours before this writing, a lunatic in the out-of-control (again) city of Minneapolis, if we are to judge from the video, tried to run over a federal agent, and has now assumed room temperature. This is the same city, remember, that gave us the George Floyd riots of 2020, and it's only a matter of dumb luck, or good fortune, that we didn't tip into civil war that summer.
I'm fairly certain we only missed it by inches. And things now aren't any better. They may be getting worse.

The summer of 2020 saw some unprecedented events, things that have only rarely happened in our history. One such was the takeover of a portion of the city of Seattle by leftist nutcases who dubbed their enclave the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest, or CHOP. Within hours, the activists were silenced, and a warlord with a gang of armed thugs had taken over, and that's how things remained until civil authorities timidly moved in and managed to reassert control - probably because the thugs were hungry and wanted to go home.
In 2020, hundreds of Americans died. Property damage ran into the billions. Entire city blocks were looted and burned. And yet, we didn't tip over the edge.
Which brings us to the question: Who will win in this match of red vs. blue? The answer: Red. But it won't be simple, and it won't be easy.
This new civil war won't be fought on distant battlefields. It will be fought amongst us. It will be fought in our city streets, in the suburbs, on the roads and byways of our nation. And it will be ugly indeed: Imagine pitched battles on the streets of our major cities, what is left of established authority against rioting mobs. Imagine those mobs engaging in raids on the suburbs when the cities run short of food and water. Imagine a complete breakdown of emergency services in those cities as first responders encounter armed gangs willing to kill them for their vehicles, equipment, and medicines. That's what will happen.
Imagine hordes of refugees fleeing the cities, into the countryside, under the misapprehension that somehow there is plenty of food to be had in the countryside, but having no skills whatsoever to find or grow said food. Imagine rural residents facing rampant theft and trespassing responding by forming their own armed militias to repel the invaders, and thus escalating the conflict into the countryside.
Here's the thing: The left thinks they'll win. They're wrong. There's no scenario in which the left can win such an open, violent conflict. They may hold some urban areas, for a while, until the food runs out, the water and electricity get shut off, and any stored supplies are gone. This new civil war will be largely urban vs. rural, and it is those rural areas that control every aspect of the massive logistical support those big cities require: Food, power, gas, everything, and the outlying areas are mostly bastions of the right.
We have all the food. We have control of water and power. And we have all the guns. We have plenty of veterans as well, and a majority of American military veterans identify themselves as Republicans or independents. In 2024, American veterans voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump.
Every war is won or lost by logistics. Our first Civil War, really a war of secession, was lost because the Confederacy couldn't match the Union's industrial might. World War 2 in Europe was lost because American industry drowned the Wehrmacht in an unlimited supply of American tanks, guns, and ammo. And any new civil war would be won by the people who control the food and utilities - the right.
But it won't be easy. It won't be quick. And it won't result in a miraculous return to the founding principles of the republic. Whatever is left after a second civil war, a truly uncivil war, probably won't be anything we easily recognize. Maybe that's why it hasn't happened yet - but if it does, it will be the left that launches it.
