Seriously, New York? You're really (maybe) going to elect the communist Zohran Mamdani as mayor?
I don't throw the word "communist" around lightly. But commies are known, above all else, for having ruling classes, and for the "do as I say, not as I do" attitudes of the members of those ruling classes. Take the daffy old Bolshevik from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, and his considerable net worth, which includes three houses. And, take Zohran Mamdani, who attended an elite specialty high school in New York, the Bronx High School of Science, and yet plans to wipe out New York schools' remaining gifted and talented programs.
Only the best would do for this privileged, Uganda-born son of a tenured Columbia professor and an Oscar-nominated filmmaker.
In 2016, he told the oral history podcast “Encompassed – Bronx Science Stories” that, in eighth grade, while he was deciding which tony private school would have the pleasure of his enrollment for the next four years, he sat for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test on a whim.
He had developed “a small idea of maybe Stuyvesant” — an even more selective and prestigious public high school than Bronx Science. “And then, when I didn’t get in, I was like, ‘Nah, I ain’t going to public school.’ ”
And that's where the great irony comes in, because now Mamdani wants to do away with these kinds of programs. Want to know why? Take a guess. Go on, guess. Give up?
He wants to do away with these programs, these schools, because, he claims, they are racist.
Mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani wants to phase out New York City’s Gifted and Talented program — the democratic socialist’s latest move to revert to ex-Mayor Bill de Blasio’s era.
Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for mayor, said Thursday he would eliminate the accelerated learning program at the kindergarten level, something that’s likely to anger parents, who have been passionately divided on the issue.
The gifted classes would remain active through the school year, but would no longer be available next fall, he said.
Critics have attacked the coveted learning model as racist due to the higher number of white and Asian students that gain entry through the exam.
But backers argue getting rid of the classes would eliminate opportunities for thousands of bright students from low-and-middle income families.
Granted, these programs aren't cheap. New York spends over $26,000 per year, per student, in these advanced programs. But if we are to have taxpayer-funded education, should we not seek to put more resources into the smartest kids? The ones that will provide the state and the city of New York with the greatest returns on investment? Yes, I know, education success is not tied inextricably to spending, but this is probably money better spent than the $36,000 per year, per student spent on special education programs.

Or is the reason simply that liberal Democrats don't have that many gifted and talented kids? I mean, take a look at some of the mutants that liberal families are sending to the country's university systems right now, and you'll think you're looking at a scene out of "Deliverance" where the cast was splashed with a few gallons of pink hair dye.
Either way, the commie Mamdani is pandering here, appealing to the very worst motivations of the very worst parts of the Big Apple's populace. And, sadly, that may well be enough to get him elected.
