New: Soros Dumps Big Cash Into California Redistricting Effort

When one examines the American political left, there is one name that keeps popping up. This name is never found on a ballot or on a roster of campaign workers and advisors, but like the proverbial bad penny, the name keeps coming up. The people who bear that name dump millions into leftist causes. They get catch-and-release judges and prosecutors elected. They fund the campaigns of leftist municipal and state candidates. There's no left-wing cause so crazy, so lunatic, that they won't pour money into it.

That name: Soros. Now we learn that old George Soros is dumping $10 million into supporting Governor Gavin Newsom's redistricting scheme.

Billionaire left-wing donor George Soros contributed $10 million to California Gov. Gavin Newsom's ballot initiative to redistrict the state, the New York Times reported Friday.

Soros, who has funded left-wing campaigns stretching from district attorneys to federal elections, contributed the single largest donation amount to Newsom's effort to redraw the state's congressional lines, according to the outlet, which cited two sources with direct knowledge.

Soros is the founder of the Open Society Foundations, which is a massive $25 billion nonprofit. His son Alex succeeded him as chair of the board of directors of the Open Society Foundations in 2022.

Old George's son Alex runs the foundation now, but old George is responsible for much of that $25 billion bank balance. He built his fortune by currency manipulation, including a 1992 effort that nearly drove the Bank of England into insolvency.

This is a man who accumulated wealth through manipulating markets. He has never produced a product that consumers wanted to buy. He has never run a business that had to worry about a bottom line. He is a manipulator and a schemer, and he and now, his son Alex, dump millions into liberal and socialist causes.

Now the Soros family enterprise (I use the term "enterprise" in the broadest possible sense) is helping Gavin Newsom carve up California, in an attempt to gerrymander that state even more ridiculously than it already is.

Make no mistake: The Soros donation is going to help Newsom quite a bit.

The donation has helped build Newsom's war chest for a redistricting effort to roughly $70 million, according to the Times. Newsom launched the redistricting effort, Proposition 50, early in 2025 to counter the Trump administration's promotion that Republicans in states such as Texas redistrict its own lines.

"We are talking about emergency measures to respond to what’s happening in Texas, and we will nullify what happens in Texas," Newsom said in August of Proposition 50.

Of course, Republican legislatures in various places are undertaking similar redistricting efforts, most notably in Texas. But there seems to be one jarring difference; a look at district maps in red states as opposed to blue states is pretty stark. In red states, some district boundaries are dividing around urban areas, but in blue states? Look at Illinois Districts 13 and 17, which wander like snakes across the state. Look at a district map of Maryland for an even more stark example.

This is what the Soros family and their foundation support. Now they've stuck their oar into California. This isn't the first time. It won't be the last.
