It's hard to contemplate the left's stance on illegal immigration without wanting to ask them, "Just what part of 'illegal' are you having trouble understanding?"
In the latest move that will surely result in many on the left and in the legacy media (but I repeat myself) running around like their hair is on fire, President Trump's Education Department has closed off taxpayer subsidies in education for "students" who are in the country illegally. You know - illegally, as in, against the law.
The Department of Education (ED) on Thursday revoked a Clinton-era rule that allowed illegal immigrants to access taxpayer funds for technical and career schools.
The Clinton administration’s rule allowed illegal aliens to access federal funds in violation of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA), to be used toward career, technical and adult education programs, according to the Trump ED. The agency notified postsecondary education programs that the rule will no longer be interpreted by the Clinton administration’s standards, saying that providers have “obligations to verify the eligibility of participants.”
Is it belaboring the obvious to point out that the Clinton rule not only subsidized people who are in the country illegally, but incentivized them to come here? Granted, a percentage of the students affected were brought here (illegally) by their parents and had little or no say in the matter. I have no idea what percentage of them fall into that category, but I'm willing to bet it's a fair number.
But, you know, that doesn't matter. They are still in the country illegally, and the Clinton rule rewarded them for it.
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon gets it:
“Postsecondary education programs funded by the federal government should benefit American citizens, not illegal aliens,” Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said. “Under President Trump’s leadership, hardworking American taxpayers will no longer foot the bill for illegal aliens to participate in our career, technical, or adult education programs or activities. The Department will ensure that taxpayer funds are reserved for citizens and individuals who have entered our country through legal means who meet federal eligibility criteria.”
The left, the Democrats, will doubtless push back on this. There will likely be lawsuits filed to try to keep the endless stream of taxpayer cash flowing to people who are in the country illegally. That is where the Democrats are now - supporting the subsidy, with your and my tax dollars, of people whose first act in the United States was to break our immigration laws.
If someone from another country wants to take advantage of America's education system, then fine - go home, apply to return to the United States legally, and then we'll talk. Until then, just go home.

This isn't the first part of the education gravy train that the Trump administration has closed off.
On June 30, the administration announced it was revoking nearly $7 billion in federal grants that went in part towards teaching English as a second language, saying the funds were being used to push “a radical leftwing agenda” and were sometimes going towards illegal immigrants.
Now, can we start talking about shutting down the Department of Education altogether?
Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
