There's an old saying that people repeat for good reason, because it's true: Everyone's entitled to their opinion. But not all opinions are created equal. Some opinions, mostly those coming from the political left, have a distinctly distant relationship with what most of us would call facts. Just read any of the so-called political commentary coming from the left, or out of the legacy media - but I repeat myself. They're long on horse squeeze but short on reality.
Case in point: Fox News "The Five" co-host Jessica Tarlov thinks that the Trump administration's actions on illegal immigration aren't what people voted for. Well, I'm sure she's partially right; I'm sure it's not what she voted for. But cast your optics over the 2024 presidential election map:

On The Story with Martha MacCallum on Tuesday, Jessica Tarlov laid out her reasoning (I use the term advisedly) as to why she doesn't think we voted for this; watch:
Jessica Tarlov: This isn't what people voted for.

"...what ICE is doing now, that is not commensurate with what the American public wants."
"They didn't vote for people to show up at Home Depots. They didn't vote for people to show up at immigration courts." pic.twitter.com/6grlheUY31
Jessica said:
They need to cooperate with ICE to hand over people who have been convicted of something. I'm not talking about crossing the border, as something that is convictable. I'm saying that if you commit a crime, once you are on U.S. soil, you should be turned over to ICE. And I think that that's an easy exchange. And that's what people voted for in November. And you would have a much stronger case against the overreach that we're seeing in terms of what ICE is doing now that is not commensurate with what the American public wants. They didn't vote for people to show up at Home Depot. They didn't vote for people to show up at immigration courts. They didn't vote for the fact that there's new data out from Cato that there's 65 percent of the people ICE has taken into custody have had no convictions.
This is, of course, just a bald assertion.
First of all, Jessica Tarlov's initial assertion, along with her last statement here, is laughably wrong. Crossing the border is a crime. Remaining in the country illegally is a crime. Our country has immigration laws, and the people who cross the border illegally and remain in the country illegally are committing a crime - that's what illegal means. That's why we call them illegal aliens, and yes, we voted to have them expelled - all of them.
And, I might point out, all of the "overreach" that Jessica Tarlov complains about wouldn't be necessary if the Biden (autopen) administration hadn't thrown open the gates to allow as many as 20 million illegal aliens into the country, largely unvetted and unscreened. Now we're paying the prices, now ICE, Border Patrol and DHS agents are risking their lives to try to do the job that shouldn't have to be done in the first place; they're showing up at Home Depot and immigration courts because the idiotic "sanctuary" policies of many liberal jurisdictions make it impossible to just pick them up at police stations or county courthouses.

But as far as getting these 20 million people out of our country, yes, we voted for this.
We also voted for straightening out America's trade imbalance with other nations. Now, there we have a work in progress, but other nations are starting to come to the table. It's happening slower than a lot of us would like, but it's happening. And the left is fighting the Trump administration on that, too. It's not proceeding perfectly, and it's not proceeding as quickly as we'd like, but holy moley, we're only six months into the Trump administration.
We voted for keeping dudes out of girls' and women's sports - and their showers and locker rooms. Not only is this practice hideously unfair for reasons I've hashed over a thousand times (Biology is a harsh mistress), but it effectively erases actual girls and women from their sports. Boys and men, with all of the physical advantages that come with being boys and men, are taking titles, awards, and more from girls and women who worked and trained for these competitions for years. The left, once again, is fighting back on that as well.

Try to imagine, even twenty years ago, the most committed leftist defending allowing men to play on women's sports teams. You can't, can you?
So, to Jessica Tarlov, I can only say this: Yes, Jessica, we voted for this. Over the last few years, the Democrat Party has gone bat-guano nuts. You're on the wrong side of every 80-20, 90-10, and 99-01 issue that you can possibly be on. We voted to return to some semblance of sanity on these issues, and we won. Are we getting everything we wanted? No. So far, we aren't seeing any entire cabinet-level federal government agencies closed down (I'm looking at you, Department of Education). So far, we aren't seeing a lot of talk on the national debt - not the budget deficit, but the national debt - although a growing economy could help us with that. But, yes, Jessica, on immigration and all these other issues, we voted for this, and we won.
Elections have consequences.
I'd love to see a lot more - I'd love to see every 2nd Amendment infringement back to and including the 1934 National Firearms Act repealed. I'd like to see the 16th and 17th amendments repealed, the income tax replaced with a consumption tax, and the appointment of Senators returned to the state legislatures. But I'm probably not going to get those things. Politics is the art of the possible, so we take what we can get now and push for more later.
And, finally, what we're getting from "Trump 2, This Time It's Personal" is light-years better than we would have gotten from the cackling incompetent Kamala Harris, and that's for sure and for certain.
