It's Working: All Quiet on the Southern Front

President Trump made illegal immigration and border security key points of his 2024 presidential campaign, and (as if we need reminding), he won that election, handily. Now we see the results. On Wednesday, the Department of Defense Press Secretary, Kingsley Wilson, took to her official X account with the front page of an Arizona newspaper, announcing that the border is under control.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth chimed in:

Why is the Department of Defense counting coup here? Because, as the DoD Press Secretary notes, border security is national security, and national security is the Department of Defense's job. We shouldn't overlook the contributions made by the Border Patrol, either, nor the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and all of the state and local officials who have, finally, been allowed to do their actual jobs and get this done.

There are still a few slipping in; the Arizona Republic article, dated June 11, 2025, referenced by Kingsley Wilson states in part:

Across the entire span of the U.S.-Mexico border, the change is stark - and it happened nearly overnight. Where Border Patrol agents encountered well over 100,000 migrants and asylum seekers just a year ago, they now see fewer than 10,000. More than four months into President Trump's second term, one of his signature campaign promises - shutting down the flow of migrants across the border - seems fulfilled.

Now, to take issue with a couple of points in that Arizona Republic piece; these aren't "migrants," they are illegal aliens, and as far as being "asylum seekers," these people were almost certainly careful coached on what key words and phrases to utter to be able to claim "asylum seeker" status. All in all, though, this is a win.

There's still a lot of work to be done, but in the Department of Defense, and with the millions of people already in the United States illegally.

It Sure Seems Like the Mexican Senate President Just Called for Invading the United States

It's important to remember that President Trump has only been back in office for a little less than five months. I've been paying attention to politics since the Carter administration, and I've never seen a president get this much done this quickly.

We still see a lot of work to be done. The southern border is in check. The northern border still has problems. There are still trade deals with other nations to be finalized, although just this (Wednesday) morning, we saw one of the biggest deals moving a step closer. Inflation is in check

This remains the big problem, though: there are still millions of people in the country illegally, and there are bad actors right here in the United States that are stirring up rebellion in our major cities. Some of those cities are in serious danger of going out of control.

Sharpening a tool requires friction, and friction causes heat. We may be in for a long, hot summer. But at least the influx of illegal immigration is checked. That's a start.

Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
