Only a week ago, the nation was shocked by the cold-blooded murder of two young people, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, outside the Capitol Jewish Museum. The shooter, 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez, a resident of Chicago, was arrested shortly after the shooting.
Now, Rodriguez's manifesto and some of his personal chat logs have been released, and the content of those documents is shocking, disgusting, and gives us an all-too-clear look at what can only be described as a sick mind. Commentator Ken Klippenstein has released the documents in full.
Ken writes:
Refusing to confront the content of these texts often creates an information vacuum that is quickly filled by hoax documents, conspiracy theories, or selective leaks from authorities that can distort the facts. I believe that sunlight is the best disinfectant, especially when politics is involved, as the document makes clear is the case here.
Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith identified Rodriguez as a 30-year-old man from Chicago who she said shouted “Free, free Palestine!” at the scene. The manifesto echoes this message, citing the war in Gaza as its central grievance and framing the killings as an act of political protest.
This is correct; these kinds of documents, no matter how sick, should be revealed; not only do we have a right to know, but this could also yield insights on how a sick mind like that of Eilad Rodriguez works, the better to prevent another such attack.
Some excerpts:
Halilintar is a word that means something like thunder or lightning. In the wake of an act people look for a text to fix its meaning, so here's an attempt. The atrocities committed by Israelis against Palestine defy description and defy quantification. Instead of reading descriptions mostly we watch them unfold on video, sometimes live. After a few months of rapidly mounting death tolls Israel had obliterated the capacity to even continue counting the dead, which has served its genocide well.
There's a lot wrong with that; first, there is no "Palestine" nor are there any "Palestinian" people that might be identified by any objective standard; there is no distinctive "Palestinian" culture, language, history, or tradition. These people can only be identified as "Muslim Arabs who once lived in what is now Israel." As for the claims of genocide, we've covered that ground many times; the only attempts at genocide in the Middle East have been perpetrated on, not by, Israel.
Mr. Klippenstein also released some excerpts from Elias Rodriguez's chat logs, which are even more disturbing.
(Warning: coarse and graphic language at the link)
“I’m almost surprised you’re not antisemitic Elias,” a chat member once wrote. “It usually goes hand and hand [sic] with the whole Stalin did nothing wrong mantra,” alluding to Rodriguez’s support for old school communism.
“One of the biggest things that stalin [sic] didn’t do wrong was ending the most antisemitic regime ever yet known 2 man,” Rodriguez responded.
The "Stalin did nothing wrong" mantra, as that poster puts it, is a statement of staggering ignorance. Joseph Stalin was directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of as many as 60 million people. As a mass murderer, Stalin made Adolf Hitler look like a rank amateur.
There's more:
“Lol you probably would have to actually genocide white people to make this a normal country,” Rodriguez wrote in one post. “Like even a very targeted and selective rehabilitation program would probably have to lead to the lifetime imprisonments of tens of millions of white people.”
This is Stalinist thinking at its most horrendous.

It's difficult to read this kind of thing; it's disturbing to see the excretia of a sick mind, the ravings of someone that, in hindsight, was clearly and inarguably disturbed. That sickness drove Elias Rodriguez to murder two completely innocent people. His writings reveal that the murders were not religiously motivated, but rather politically motivated; this is a man who is to the left of even the most hardened "progressive" windbags in American politics today. He is a Stalinist, an adherent to an ideology that has killed more people than any other in history.
That makes no difference, of course, to Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim.
We don't like reading ravings like these. But read we must. We can't understand the ravings of a sick mind like that of Elias Rodriguez. But we should be aware of the warning signs. Rodriguez's mental illness did not, after all, arise in a vacuum. There are others out there, others of the far left, the Stalinist left, who think like he does. We should view his ravings as a warning.
