What's up with Los Angeles city officials? Is it something in the water at City Hall?

Here's the latest LA incident: A city official, in fact a deputy mayor, has pleaded guilty to reporting a fake anti-Israel bomb threat. That's a serious matter

A former Los Angeles deputy mayor pleaded guilty to reporting an anti-Israel bomb threat on city hall last year.

Brian K. Williams, 61, who was employed as the deputy mayor of public safety in October 2024, was charged with one felony count of making an explosives threat

Deputy Mayor of Public Safety. That's an impressive-sounding title, and the irony just drips from that appellation - the Deputy Mayor of Public Safety, engaging in a terrorism hoax that could have caused panic, injuries, and deaths. And the embattled Mayor chose him personally for that job:

He was hand-picked for the role by woke Mayor Karen Bass in February 2023 and given significant public safety responsibility, including oversight of the city's fire and police departments.

Williams sent a text message to Bass and other high-ranking city officials on October 3, 2024, that he just received a call from someone who threatened to bomb city hall, prosecutors said.

'The male caller stated that "he was tired of the city's support of Israel, and he has decided to place a bomb in City Hall. It might be in the rotunda,"' Williams wrote in the text.

Of course, any such threat has to be taken seriously, especially were it phoned in to the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety. And that raises a question: Did Mayor Bass, when she hand-picked Brian K. Williams for this role, know he was a raving antisemitic nut?

But wait! There's more!

He said he contacted the Los Angeles Police Department, who sent officers to search the building but did not locate any suspicious packages or devices.

Williams showed officers a call he received from a blocked number on his city-issued cellphone that he said was from the person who made the bomb threat.

The call was made by Williams himself through the Google Voice application on his personal phone, according to prosecutors.

Well, at least he 'fessed up - when he was caught. It's unclear as to whether Mayor Bass was or was not on yet another inexplicable overseas trip when all this came to light.

Isn't it funny how these kinds of hoaxes always seem to come from lefties, in lefty jurisdictions? Of course, this one is a tad unusual in that the hoax isn't trying to Jussie Smollett the right. Israel-hate is almost exclusively a left-wing thing these days, making this something of an exercise in autophagia for the deputy mayor. He now faces up to 10 years in prison for this act of utter stupidity, although in this jurisdiction, it's a near-certainty he won't see any jail time.

Come on, Los Angelenos, what about it? You elected the nut who appointed this nut. It's nuts all the way down in the City of Angels, and that once-wonderful place won't start down the return path until the residents start voting in a better class of civic leaders. At least, elect some that won't perpetrate stupid, transparent hoaxes that waste the time of your emergency response people.
