Debt Crisis! Anti-Trump Lincoln Project Ends 2024 So Far Underwater They Can't See the Surface

The schadenfreude, it is strong in this one. The anti-Trump Lincoln Project, made up of invertebrates who were once ostensibly Republicans, has finished off 2024. In that landmark year, the Lincoln Projectors not only saw their arch-nemesis Donald Trump win a second term in a resounding defeat of the Queen of Word Salads, Kamala Harris, but they are most decidedly burdened by what has been - namely, $863,000 in unpaid invoices.

Oops.

The anti-Trump Lincoln Project, which spent millions of dollars on ads supporting former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, finished out last year strapped with over $863,000 in unpaid invoices, Federal Election Commission filings show

The documents, released Friday, illustrate the hurdles the Lincoln Project continues to face as it increasingly navigates political no man’s land.

Founded in 2019, the Lincoln Project has also been mired in controversy over allegations of self-dealing and for its handling of sexual harassment allegations against Lincoln Project co-founder John Weaver. It has a history of routing donor funds from its war chest to companies owned by its leaders, including senior adviser Joe Trippi and former GOP strategist Rick Wilson, the Washington Examiner reported.

It's not only tempting to point and laugh at the Lincoln Project, it's almost obligatory. They tried their best to make sure President Trump didn't get a second term, but they failed. It was one of the worst strategic miscalculations since Confederate General James Longstreet, at Gettysburg, cautioned Robert E. Lee that "No 15,000 men ever made could take that hill."

Oh, they're still trying. They want to use whatever fading influence they have to try to scotch some of Trump's cabinet picks:

Now, faced with another presidency from the man it has framed its group around opposing, the Lincoln Project is sending out a flurry of press releases taking aim at Trump’s Cabinet appointees. One, from last week, urged senators to reject Trump’s “trash” picks.

“The Senate needs to do the right thing and kick the dictator groupie and conspiracy theorists to the curb,” the Lincoln Project said.

There's a word for an effort like this: "Impotent."

Of course, everyone has the right to advocate for the political candidates of their choice. The Lincoln Projectors are no exception. But they did make the mistake of standing in front of a major political evolution, the rise of American populism, and yelling "STOP" only to get squashed. One thing is abundantly clear, and it's that the Lincoln Project doesn't understand that Donald Trump didn't create this movement, this new populism, but he recognized it and took the leadership role. He was the right man for that task, and the American voters gave him a resounding electoral victory because they are more concerned with having cheap gasoline, affordable eggs, and decent schools than they are with gender theory and carbon footprints. That's what the left missed and is still missing, and the Lincoln Project has cast its lot with them - and we can see what good it has done them, with almost a million in debt.

The Lincoln Project's members need to sit down and contemplate their utter failure. And, since Donald Trump isn't eligible for another term, it seems their raison d'etre is gone. Do strike the tents, Lincoln Projectors, find a way to pay those bills, and go home to drown your sorrows. We'd wish you all well, but I think you know that we don't.
