There's a reason to check out propaganda put out by bad guys - when dealing with a rival, it's good to know not only what they are thinking but also what they are trying to get people to think. Our military intel types do this routinely, and our NSA and CIA damn well ought to be if they aren't. 

Turns out the Biden State Department was doing this as well - sort of. State Department televisions in the Biden administration, we have learned, were regularly tuned to Venezuelan propaganda broadcasts. Why?

The Biden State Department’s office TVs were tuned into a state-funded Venezuelan propaganda channel that some say operates as an unregistered foreign agent to push the agenda of anti-American actors, The Daily Wire can report.

TVs at the Biden State Department were tuned into Telesur, a state-funded Venezuelan outlet that received 70 percent of its initial funding from the regime of anti-American socialist Hugo Chavez and even featured Chavez’s weekly show, “Alo, Presidente,” while he was alive.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this wasn't being done in the name of gathering signals intelligence. We've speculated in the past that the Biden administration, which was maybe an even more left-wing administration than the Obama administration, relied on Gen Z staffers to make decisions and drive policy. Could these young skulls full of leftist mush be responsible for this?

Telesur, the propaganda outlet in question, is a particularly egregious far-left effort, maybe even more radical than "The View." And it's not just funded by Venezuela. There are more of the Latin American usual suspects involved.

The outlet also receives funding from the left-wing governments of Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Bolivia, and has been slammed as a purveyor of “fake news, ‘whataboutism,’ and disinformation” as it works to “demonize the West, undermine the credibility of Western news outlets, paint Western leaders as hypocrites, and promote a narrative of global resistance against America and its allies.”

This is the same totalitarian government that says they won't take back any of their own people who are illegally in the United States, but that there's a new sheriff in town now - that town being Washington, D.C - so it's likely that we'll see that changing before long.

Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) called for this channel to be looked at way back in 2018, noting correctly that it was nothing more than a propaganda outlet for the Venezuelan government - which is obviously true. But there is the counter-argument that the best thing one can do with leftist propaganda (like, say, "The View") is to let them keep talking. They frequently make themselves the best argument against the very propaganda they push.

But not on the American taxpayer's dime, and not for consumption by staffers for whom propaganda monitoring and related intelligence work is not part of their portfolio. While we cannot know for sure, it seems likely that intelligence gathering wasn't what was going on; these were Biden administration leftists watching other leftists. They were, likely, people who thought Rachel Maddow was a little too warm and fuzzy and wanted to see real socialists in action.

For now, though, the practice has stopped.

The channel has since been removed from the State Department office TVs, The Daily Wire has learned.
