Two assassination attempts on one presidential candidate in a few weeks have to be something of a record, and since the candidate in question is Donald Trump, who for whatever reason is causing plenty of people on the left to come unglued, his Secret Service detail is likely wetting themselves every time former President Trump makes a public appearance. 

Well, at least, they should be.

As we can imagine, one of the places that Donald Trump frequents and, as we have seen, presents a thorny security problem, is the wide-open environs of a golf course. That's why Trump is giving up golf until after the election, which is probably the prudent move.

Former President Donald Trump has not played golf since an apparent assassination attempt near one of his courses on Sept. 15, and he will not do so until after the election, according to a person close to the campaign and another person familiar with the situation.

A third person familiar with the conversations said Trump was told that federal agents could not ensure his safety to a degree that they were comfortable with if he were to play. The concerns were conveyed in two conversations with Trump since the September incident: one with Ronald Rowe, the acting director of the Secret Service, and the other with officials from the national intelligence director’s office.

The safety issue had been on Trump’s mind.

"The safety issue had been on Trump's mind." You don't say! Two assassination attempts, one where the former President Trump was shot and was saved from a fatal wound only by turning his head at the last moment - and a second where the would-be assassin set up an ambush on a golf course. 

Yes, that would prompt anyone to be a tad concerned about their safety, and if former President Trump's Secret Service detail is even conscious, they have to be hitting their knees begging Trump to cancel any future golfing excursions for the time being. And, if this is the case, it appears that Trump is listening to them. 

Oh, he's still doing his trademark huge rallies, but they are keeping him behind plexiglass, and you can bet that they are paying a little more attention to nearby rooftops.

If Trump wins the election, well, Camp David has a driving range, and a President of the United States can't get much more secure than at that facility where he is surrounded by Marines. If he loses - well, there will still be nuts out there with Trump Derangement Syndrome. 

The sad truth is that Donald Trump will face these kinds of security worries for the rest of his life; even if he wins his non-consecutive second term, serves it out, and retires, he may well never be able to play openly in a golf tournament again without that constant worry, that constant scanning of the treeline, the knowledge that while the Secret Service has to get it right every time, a nutcase would-be assassin only has to get it right once.

Imagine being in a line of work with this kind of security concern. Imagine spending the rest of your life surrounded by armed guards. Imagine worrying, constantly, over your children and grandchildren. Assassination - or kidnapping - are both a constant worry for you and yours. 

That's not a life I'd care to lead.

So, former President Trump is giving up golf until after the election. He may be forced to give it up for good.
