Speaking at the White House during the National Governors Association meeting, President Biden heaped praise on California Governor Gavin Newsom, talking about such things as the high-speed rail and the number of people leaving California for greener pastures, and evidently, seeing those as... positives?
President Biden on Friday praised California Gov. Gavin Newsom and joked about Californians potentially fleeing his state on a high-speed rail line as speculation continues to swirl over whether Newsom could replace Biden in the 2024 presidential race.
Biden, speaking at the White House during a meeting of the National Governors Association, said, "We're building the nation's first high speed rail line in California and Nevada" and "I want to thank Governor Newsom for his leadership on that."
"And by the way, I'm not sure how many people who leave L.A. can do it in two hours to get there, or whether they're going to come back or not," Biden joked.
Here's a hint, Mr. President: They aren't coming back, not as long as your apparent protégé is in charge in the once and former Golden State.

Steve Doocy Delivers Brutal but Important Comment About Joe Biden's Tripping Problem
The inestimable Joe Rogan has speculated on the possibility that the Democratic Party will swap out the ever-more-befuddled Joe Biden for Gavin Newsom at the Democratic National Convention, if not sooner.
Podcast host Joe Rogan has become one of the latest figures to speculate on whether the Democratic Party is preparing to swap out Biden with Newsom on this year’s presidential ticket.
"Don’t you think that that’s a ruse, him running for president?" Rogan said during one of his recent shows, later arguing, "I think they’re gonna get rid of him, I think they’re gonna move him out, they’re gonna force him to step down. That’s what I think."
"If I had to guess, and it's just speculation, I'd say they're setting up Gavin Newsom for it," he added.
Running Gavin Newsom for President, any sane person would think, would be the worst decision since Jacob and George Donner told the party they were leading across the Rockies, "We know a shortcut; follow us this way."
There can be little doubt that Gavin Newsom would love to take his show on the road. After destroying San Francisco and then California, he apparently has perfected his society-wrecking technique, and while he lusts after the presidency as a wolf craves a sheep, I'm skeptical in the extreme that the Democrats will make this swap; not this year.
Can they win with Joe Biden? Kamala Harris? The Democrats have a real problem; their bench is as thin as an opossum that an entire convoy of 18-wheelers has just run over. It's hard to see a way out for the Democrats; a 25th Amendment action requires a two-thirds vote of the House and Senate. (If the GOP has any foresight at all, they will vote lockstep to leave daffy old Joe in place.) That seems unlikely. And replacing him with shenanigans at the convention, after so many Democrats have been insisting that "Oh, no, Joe is just fine" — that seems likely to create some serious rifts in the Democratic Party.
No matter what else happens, it seems the song remains the same: the blind leading the stupid.
