Merriam-Webster defines "absurdity" thusly: 

1: the quality or state of being absurd : absurdness 

2: something that is absurd

Merriam-Webster missed an opportunity, however, when they failed to put a photo of Whitney Wright alongside that definition. Why? Because Whitney Wright is an American porn star who recently traveled to Tehran, where she lectured Iranian womanhood on the importance of modesty. Yes, really — this actually made my brain hurt.

American porn actress Whitney Wright, an outspoken Palestinian supporter since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war, recently visited Tehran. 

During her visit, Wright reportedly made comments blaming the safety risks women in Iran are exposed to on political dissidents for not obeying Iran's modesty laws, according to numerous media reports and social media posts made by American-Iranian activist and journalist Masih Alinejad.

Wright, on a post featuring a photograph of herself in modest clothing at the now-abandoned US embassy in Iran, wrote, “If you respect the law, you will be safe in Iran.” The embassy had been abandoned after the 1979 hostage crisis, where staff had been held hostage for 444 days. The site is now run by the IRGC.

In other words: Iranian women, shut up and do as you're told.

It is utterly baffling how the admittedly pro-Palestinian American porn star thought this was in any way helpful to Iranian women. As a porn star, she is precisely what the Iranian mullahs claim all American women to be: immodest, sexually promiscuous, and, not to put too fine a point on it, a word that starts with "w" and ends with "hore." Her appearance in Tehran is a propaganda victory for the mullahs, the people who brutally oppress Iranian women.

Iran is a country that uses gang rape to punish women who protest the government's repression. They imprison women for dressing "immodestly," in other words, in a fashion that would be considered very conservative by Western standards. They react to protests by doubling down, making their repressive policies more repressive.

This is, I hasten to note, a country that is openly hostile to the United States and with which we are currently involved in a low-scale proxy conflict.

Remember: Miss Wright is an American citizen. American citizens have to have government permission to travel to hostile nations like Iran. Who in the world thought it was a good idea to approve a porn star to travel to Iran? Did the Iranians have her bring along some of her movies to establish her bona fides?

You really can't make this stuff up.

The Iranian mullahs couldn't have come up with a better propaganda tool if they had hired an actress to portray their vicious caricature of American (and Western) women. What's really sad about this is that some Iranian men and women will accept this person as representative — after all, she fits what the mullahs have been telling them about America and the West since 1979.

I wouldn't be in favor of leaving Miss Wright over there; that's a cruel and unusual punishment, especially when you consider her likely fate once she's no longer useful to the regime. But I can see a reason for canceling her passport on her return. If she wants to propagandize for Sharia law, let her do it in Los Angeles — or Dearborn.
