Nearly three weeks into a war against a crazed theocracy, the political and media focus has been, like a complaining child in the back seat of a car on a long trip, “When will it be over?”
This ridiculous impatience is a product of a Democrat opposition to Operation Epic Fury that will exploit every misstep, whether occurring out of strategy, operations, rhetoric, or unintended consequences. It is akin to getting a work assignment that the employer and employee both know will only reasonably produce results after weeks of long hours, at minimum, but nonetheless getting harangued by the boss every day: “You’re not done yet!?”
Now, the boss may be just an intolerable micro-manager, or he may be trying to get you to quit out of frustration. But it’s fairly certain, given the Democrat decades-long foreign policy record, that productive oversight of the conflict is not their goal.
Between the now ascendant neo-Marxist left and the “river-to-the-sea” crowd, the Democrat war objectives are clear: sabotage.

And shamefully, there are ostensibly “right-leaning” political agitators today that are giving it aid and comfort: that merry band of so-called nationalists, isolationists (along with their many libertarian fellow-travelers), “no-forever-war” Israel-haters, and anti-semites (with the concession of overlap of these latter two groups) that is the emergent “Woke Reich.”
The Woke Reich in general says that what Iran (or much of any other country – see most recently the Russia-Ukraine war) does is none of our business. That Israel has undue influence in American foreign policy and governance generally (conspiratorial intonations of “Rothschilds!” anyone?). That to the extent that Iran is a problem, the United States (sorry, I left out the “Blame America” crowd in my list) is the cause since we undermined Mohammed Mossadeg in 1953 and “installed” the Shah instead.
This is ahistorical and juvenile.
However you consider the CIA or any other American involvement (or lack thereof) in Iran through the decades, the objective was the deterrence/containment of Soviet expansion. The Soviets were, like the mullahs, implacable enemies - from at least their perspective, there was no “live and let live.” They were as religious in their Soviet “dialectic” that the ultimate “end of history” would be global communism as the Iranian theocrats are in their Shiism/Islamism. The Soviet “jihad” was “international communism.”
Both ideologies are religiously radical – communism, to create a paradise on earth, and Islamism, to expedite it in the hereafter. Such insanity, to quote Alfred from The Dark Knight, “can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with.” As he concludes, their ideology is to “see the [Western] world” burn.
Like the effort to contain/defeat the Soviets, the effort to contain/defeat the Islamofascists inevitably will have missteps, shortcomings, and failures. But it is both righteous and necessary, not just for America’s survival, but for the free world’s.
You cannot coexist with a counterpart that denies your right to exist. And for the mullahs, this doesn’t just apply to us and Israel, but the free world, as 47 years of incessant attacks by them has thoroughly demonstrated, and the 30-40 years of Cold War with the USSR that preceded it.
The Woke Reich, largely found online and stamped “influencers,” is the equivalent of the fellow travelers and useful idiots of Lenin, Stalin, and Mao.
Too many Republicans fear confronting this rabble out of regrettable but typical political expediency. They believe these so-called “influencers” have a following that could cost them votes. As is also typical of political expediency, this is cowardice.
Donald Trump ran two presidential campaigns against forever wars. The Woke Reich has abandoned him over this as a betrayal. What they either don’t know or fail to acknowledge is that the country has been betrayed for the past half-century by presidents either without the guts or, at a minimum, the common sense to recognize and defend America against the open war Iran has waged against it since taking the U.S. Embassy and hostages in 1979.
Republican politicians need to wake up to the Woke Reich. No less a leftist outpost than Mediaite even reports that MAGA overwhelmingly supports the Iran strikes, 47 years late though they may be.
Far from starting a war, President Donald Trump is ending one after fifty years, which is far too long, but it isn’t forever. And like him, Republicans shouldn’t care – or better yet – should flat-out reject what the Woke Reich thinks.
Editor's Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
