Trump talk at the Miss USA pageant

Maybe we should’ve watched last night’s beauty pageant. From all accounts the questions were real zingers. Boos were heard after Miss Hawaii Chelsea Hardin was asked, directly, who she was going to vote for in the presidential election.  Whattheheck? The Wrap gives a rundown:

“With Hillary Clinton expected to surpass the delegate count needed to win the Democratic party nomination, my question to you is: If the election were held tomorrow, would you vote Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump for President and why would you chose one over the other?”

This question was written up by pageant officials. It’s a private organization so I guess they can ask any question they want but still… was there any right way to answer this question?  Here’s her answer:

“All I have to say … it doesn’t matter what gender. What we need in the United States is someone who represents those of us who feel like we don’t have a voice. Those of us who want our voices heard. We need a president who will push for what is right and who will push for what America really needs. Thank you.”

Hardin came in 1st Runner Up.  The new Miss USA is Deshauna Barber, an Army officer from District of Columbia. She was asked about women in combat. Yahoo has up her answer as well as the rest of the pageant’s highlights, here.

Choking  Super Women

But I’m having difficulty feeling the outrage.  20th Century Fox is promoting the movie X-Men Apocalypse. C-NET says in the clip the character Mystique is being choked by the bad guy, Apocalypse.  So, we have a female super-person being choked by a male villain. Everyone knows these are comic book characters brought to life on the big screen but the social busybodies are screaming about “violence against women”.  So FOX felt it necessary to issue an apology.

“In our enthusiasm to show the villainy of the character Apocalypse we didn’t immediately recognize the upsetting connotation of this image in print form,” Fox said in a statement. “Once we realized how insensitive it was, we quickly took steps to remove those materials. We apologize for our actions and would never condone violence against women.”

If you check out the picture yes, she’s being choked. But I don’t think it’s condoning violence against women. Whenever super heroes meet up with bad guys there will be violence. It’s the nature of action comic books. I’m giving 20th Century FOX a break on this this one.

He’s hazardous to our health

Hahahaha. Here’s today’s funny. Buzzfeed has reportedly turned town $1.3 million bucks worth of RNC advertising. Why? Two words. Donald Trump. You can read out their reasoning on their site  but this one particular quote is giggle worthy:

“We certainly don’t like to turn away revenue that funds all the important work we do across the company. However, in some cases we must make business exceptions: we don’t run cigarette ads because they are hazardous to our health, and we won’t accept Trump ads for the exact same reason.”

Where the sun don’t shine

There’s enough Donald Trump in today’s cooler to choke an elephant, but doggone it, some things are too incredible to leave out.  Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Texas) has had enough and the final straw came when when Trump attacked judge Gonzalo Curiel.  The Hill says Vela has put out an open letter today to Trump, at one point telling the GOP presumptive nominee:  “Mr. Trump, you’re a racist and you can take your border wall and shove it up your a*s“.  At least Vela is acknowledging the racist part. That’s more than we can squeeze out of McConnell.
