For Those With Short Memories, a Reminder Why Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Has Not Been Good for Michigan

Oh 2025, how you are already turning out to be a magnificent challenge, and the amazing thing is we're not even halfway through the calendar year.

Simply amazing.

For those of you who are frequent readers here at the amazing pages at RedState, possibly you have come across some of my past articles that have talked about what a critical failure the current governor of the state of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, is.

Of course, I could bore you with every article that I have produced here, but I choose to do the greatest hits. In Whitmer's six years, she has a non-impressive record.

Well, maybe it is impressive to those who still have to ponder how to tie their shoes (that are slip-ons).

I have mentioned this chap before, being Charlie LeDuff is a real journalist, and he has done some greatly needed work on how Gov. Whitmer acted during the COVID lockdowns. He partnered with the Mackinac Center to FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) the government data on the results of regular people during those lockdowns.

Here is a sampling of what I posted a couple of months back from Mr. LeDuff (which he put in an X post)...

Remember When Gretchen Whitmer Issued All Her Misguided COVID Orders Five Years Ago? Some Michiganians Do

It was 5 years ago today that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued the first of her disastrous Covid-19 pandemic orders.
"Science and data," she boasted.
There was no science or data. Remember, I had to sue her to find out there was no accurate death count in the long-term care facilities.
No other reporter joined me.
Not one.
Some, in fact, covered for her.
The true death count in MI is may be as high as 14,000...close to that of NY.
The stupidity of co-mingling the sick and the old.
Even NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo stopped doing it after six weeks.
Not Whitmer.
I promised the families I would do my best to get them justice.
Today, I reaffirm that commitment.
Things are in motion.

LeDuff was doing the dirty work that the mainstream folks, who were terrified of not getting invites to special events, would never touch. He uncovered this nugget that was important to those of us in the Mitten State:

Back in 2021, LeDuff was digging into the actual numbers of nursing home deaths during COVID-19, and he teamed up with the Mackinac Center, and what they found was slightly shocking. Report: Michigan Nursing Home COVID Deaths Could Be Underreported by 40% or Higher

So, when Donald Trump, a couple of weeks back, praised Governor Whitmer and essentially said she was doing a good job and was a nice person, I chuckled and blew it off. Donald Trump, believe it or not, seeks common ground most of the time with everyone. That is just a natural byproduct of his years as a real estate developer and having to do with politicians of all parties and philosophies.

When you disagree with him or call him a name, he then shifts into "bull in a china shop" mode. That's where most of us rather enjoy the show that he puts on.

Yet, I didn't have a problem on X or on my Facebook show page saying, essentially, that she is not all that in a bag of chips, Mr. President.

When I came across an article by a local radio legend her,e over at The Detroit News, by the name of Paul W. Smith, I had to stop for a minute and also say... Gretch has not been great for the Great Lakes State:

The President of the United States chose to celebrate his 100th Day in office in the great state of Michigan. That’s a big deal. If you don’t think so, that’s very unfortunate. But I’m not surprised.

However, I was surprised at what I saw the day after President Donald Trump delivered to our state the present of guaranteed extended life for Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township by gifting 21 new F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets.

Smith went on to lament that:

This is what our elected officials are supposed to do: bite the bullet and reach across the aisle and make good things happen for all of us. For anyone to question Whitmer's “Democrat-ness” shows why they are the worst of what’s happened in politics. They are the people who put “party” ahead of “the people”.

I'm not questioning her Democrat-ness, I'm questioning her governing ability--which has been horrible.

Shoving people into nursing homes and saying that the executive orders that she signed were based on science, when they clearly were not, is disgusting. Doubling down on that horrible policy and then backing up facilities that were not allowing loved ones to visit to be by their side, sometimes as they passed on, is horrible.

That Gretchen Whitmer was the governor when Selfridge Air National Guard base was granted these new planes from the Trump administration is not a crowning achievement for her. Several federally elected officials are way ahead in the line to take credit for the hard work that has been put in for the past decade to achieve this goal.

It would be a much better world if elected officials from both sides of the aisle could work together for goals that would benefit their constituents.

Yet, I can't get over the fact that someone who made decisions based on non-existent science deserves a pat on the back at any time during the remainder of her term.

Yes, I'm consistently a jerk like that.
