I love being a Michiganian so much. (Yes, that is what those who understand the meaning of words correctly call those who live in Michigan.)
Why would I love living in a state that constantly votes blue? That is a damn fine question, and my answer is simply this: I must be crazy.
However, I was never crazy enough to vote for the current governor, even though she makes me laugh. Which is better than crying, of course, and believe me, she has done enough, particularly during her moronic COVID lockdowns, to make a plethora of Michiganians cry.
So yesterday, I wrote a story about my wayward governor, which contained this paragraph about an incident involving her at the White House:
So for those folks who are embarrassed that she held up some folders in front of her face at the White House, which is a typical motion for somebody who occasionally shows embarrassment for being inadequate and bad at their job, sorry they're shocked. That some thought she was competent because she had been elected and reelected tells me they do not understand how the state of Michigan works in elections.
I kind of brushed off the incident because the governor of Michigan reminds me of the congressperson from New York, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, better known as AOC. They both do and say things that are a little bit off the wall, but those of us dealing in reality just kind of brush it off as if they are just being adorable.
No harm, no foul. Right?
Well, the governor made a speech earlier today where she answered a question about the incident and I found her explanation almost insightful.
From the Detroit News:
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Monday that she temporarily hid her face from photographers in President Donald Trump's Oval Office last week simply because she didn't want her picture taken.
Whitmer, a second-term Democrat, made the comment at a meeting of the Detroit Economic Club after The New York Times published a photo Saturday of her holding blue folders in front of her face inside the Oval Office. Whitmer has faced a mixture of criticism and praise for venturing to Washington, D.C., to talk to Trump, a Republican, on Wednesday.
On what was going through her head at the moment, Whitmer said, “I don’t want my picture taken. That’s all it was. I kinda wish I hadn’t put my folder up in front of my face. But whatever."
“I just wrote a book about learning to laugh at yourself. So I’m pretty good at it," she added, referring to her book "True Gretch."
"I kinda wish I hadn’t put my folder up in front of my face. But whatever."
But whatever is just so AOC mixed with just a tinge of Taylor Swift, I could just die.

The governor, who was in Washington with Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall, was complimented by the speaker for sticking it out in the Oval Office while President Trump did what President Trump does: make Democrats nervous.
But Hall said it was “smart” for Whitmer to work with Trump, who committed to "save Lake Michigan" from Asian carp and that his administration would "come back with a very good answer" for Selfridge's future.
“Governor Whitmer tells me and tells all of us that she does not have presidential ambitions,” Hall said. “If that’s true, then we should be celebrating the fact that we got public commitments on two of our biggest priorities for the state of Michigan at the federal level.”
Speaker Hall is repeating something that the Governor has told many others, and it is 100 percent true.
She does not have any presidential ambitions as much as the talking gumball heads on MSNBC were wishing until she held up those blue folders in front of her face to block a picture from being taken, which is a weird maneuver considering you're in the most famous house in the United States of America — with the new Hitler, according to her party elders.
Thankfully, her time as our leader in Michigan is coming to an end, and she probably has a whole new career lined up and ready to go. She can go on tour with Grandpa Bernie and AOC and tell everyone how much Trump hates them, and she should know, being she survived her Oval Office encounter with him and barely escaped her visit with him because of her protective blue folders.
Hopefully, Michigan survives her last couple of months in office but in the Guv's own words, I'm sure she thinks....
"But whatever."
