Donald Trump Has the Chance to Make Twitter Great Again

A very early MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone — your favorite ex-POTUS Donald Trump is BACK on Twitter and ready to rumble.

Well, not just yet but hope springs eternal.

My colleague Teri Christoph covered the story that Elon Musk had decided that Trump being in the Twitter jail for almost 24 months was long enough and moved Saturday night to reinstate him. BREAKING: Elon Musk Reinstates Donald Trump’s Twitter Account. From that story…

This comes after Musk took a Twitter poll yesterday asking users if he should reinstate Trump’s account. Final results: 15,085,458 votes cast; 51.8% in favor; 48.2% against.

Musk was quick to take action, with the former president’s account being activated within minutes of Musk’s announcement.

My colleague Nick Arama also had a piece about how the left was melting down over this decision, which is, of course, predictable and oh-so-amazing to watch. From that piece, HOT TAKES: The Left Melts Down Over Trump Twitter Reinstatement. Here is a mere sampling of that post…

Now that the leftist progressive meltdown has begun over Elon Musk’s decision to reinstate Trump on the platform, the next logical question is: When does Trump send his next tweet? The meltdown following his first tweet back will undoubtedly break not only Twitter servers but probably the whole damn web.

However, Donald is acting as though he’s not so sure that he will come back to Twitter. According to some reports, Trump might be a bit gun-shy at this point.

Trump was permanently banned from Twitter in 2021 “due to the risk of further incitement of violence” following the insurrection at the US Capitol. Earlier this week, he formally entered the 2024 US presidential race, making official what he had been teasing for months.

Still, it’s not a done deal that the former president will return to Twitter. Trump said earlier Saturday that he sees “a lot of problems at Twitter” and will stick to his own social-media platform, Truth Social.

“I hear we’re getting a big vote to also go back on Twitter. I don’t see it because I don’t see any reason for it,” Trump told the Republican Jewish Coalition meeting in Las Vegas via video link. “It may make it, it may not make it.”

I’m sure that the former President is a reader here of all of the great content at RedState and appreciates many of us who have written about his policy achievements while in office. So knowing that the former President values people speaking directly to him and telling him what they think, let me offer this to the former 45th POTUS and possible future 47th POTUS:

CUT THE CRAP AND GET BACK ON TWITTER!!

Trump not getting back on Twitter with the opportunity to do so is just about as backward as Trump not supersizing a Big Mac meal at McDonald’s. We both love those meals, Mr. President, and there is no reason to even think for a minute you are not going to do it.

I’m not going to go in-depth here about the stories of Trump possibly wanting to bail from Truth Social. I’m also going to skip talking about the semi-disastrous rollout where it took over half a year to get the Android app up and running after its initial launch. I’m just going to whistle Dixie past the graveyard on all of that and get to the heart of the matter.

Truth Social is a pimple on a gnat’s behind compared to the reach and effect of Twitter. Possibly T.S. becomes a bigger force years down the road, but Trump is 76 years old right now and he doesn’t have another decade to wait for that thing to come into its own. The future Trump Presidential Library should have a wing dedicated just to his tweets while President, so he would be naive not to take advantage of this opportunity.

For whatever reason, Donald Trump’s gut instincts align better with blue-collar workers in America than they did with millionaires and billionaires in New York and around the country. This is the main reason why he has such a loyal following and he outmaneuvered Clinton in 2016.

Yet, if his instincts are failing him now and he decides not to go back to Twitter while ramping up for a Presidential run in 2024, I might start to suspect that he no longer has his mojo. Maybe his age and the wear and tear of all the nonsense investigations surrounding him are finally taking their toll and he is becoming more like Biden of 2022 than Trump of 2015.

Only time and President Trump ultimately will be able to tell. Yet, my ever so humble suggestion — and of millions of people around the country and billions around the world — is that he can make one simple phrase come true.

Make Twitter Great Again.

Do it for America!
