Chris Wallace, formerly of Fox News and now of the Jeff Zucker-less CNN, just did the most inside the Beltway move one person can do. He went to the New York Times to cry some crocodile tears about his reasoning for jumping to the former leader of cable news and now perpetual dumpster fire of cable, CNN.

Really all too predictable, and I would have been surprised had he just kept his lid shut. Yet inside the political bubble types of Washington, D.C., that type of behavior is never allowed.

Possibly, you recall last December when it was reported widely that Wallace had decided to end his time at “Fox News Sunday,” where he had spent 18 years as the host of that show. My colleague Bonchie reported that right here at RedState with his post at the time, “Chris Wallace Is OUT at Fox News, Plugs ‘New Adventure.'” That new adventure of course was jumping to CNN, where Zucker had promised him the world and where Wallace witnessed up close the implosion that the network that hired Brian Stelter was about to go through.

Now that the dust has settled a bit on the crash at his new employer, it was time for Chris to give his reasons.

Former Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said his last employer presented an “unsustainable” workplace after the 2020 election and he “just no longer felt comfortable with the programming” at the media giant.

“I’m fine with opinion: conservative opinion, liberal opinion,” Wallace told the New York Times in an interview published Sunday. “But when people start to question the truth — Who won the 2020 election? Was Jan. 6 an insurrection? — I found that unsustainable.”

Wallace, who left Fox News last December after 18 years for cable news rival CNN, confirmed he complained to Fox News leadership about Tucker Carlson’s streaming documentary “Patriot Purge,” which set out claims the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was a “false flag” operation intended to tarnish the name of conservatives.

What Wallace means when he said he no longer felt comfortable with the programming at Fox News, actually means that he lost an argument with the brass, and they weren’t going to agree with his view. This happens with people who have a legacy name in Washington, D.C., or in entertainment in general — they seem to believe that their opinion is the only one that matters.

If I were to break it down even more for everyone, his feelings were hurt.

I personally have not seen any evidence that the 2020 election was stolen. However, I know a lot of people who do statistics that will be studying for years how in the hell President Pudding Brain received 81 million votes. That is no reason to quit your job because people are questioning that. Wallace had no issue, when Hillary Clinton and the Democrats were claiming the election was stolen due to Russian interference in 2016.

The people that are arguing that January 6th was not an insurrection also are not enough reason to say that working somewhere like Fox is “unsustainable,” when you’re making millions of dollars a year for doing a one-hour Sunday show. Once again, this is more about feelings than facts, in my opinion.

What this boils down to, I believe, is once again, Chris Wallace, son of legendary “60 Minutes” broadcaster Mike Wallace, felt that his view mattered more than anyone else’s at the Fox News news division. The brass at Fox decided not to punish Carlson or anyone else who was making claims that Wallace and the others who left over Tucker’s special, Jonah Goldberg and Steven Hayes, disagreed with. The fact that they didn’t side with them is just proof to me about hurt feelings.

Chris Wallace never claimed that he was told by Fox News management whom to have on his show or what to say; that he expected that they would do that with Tucker Carlson’s show is highly amusing and also hypocritical.

Currently, the best evening news show in the business is “Special Report with Bret Baier” on the Fox News Channel. That Wallace would leave Fox over the reasons he has given–with his former network having by far the best news division in the cable news sphere–just bolsters my belief that, once again, his tissue paper feelings got hurt.

Yet in the end, he showed he was done with the news after his delicate sensibilities were not heeded, with his comments from the NYT interview about what his new show will be about.

As to the future, Wallace said his new daily interview show will be less about politics. Instead some of his first guests will include William Shatner and singer Judy Collins.

“I wanted to get out of politics,” he told the Times. “Doing a Sunday show on the incremental change from week to week in the Build Back Better plan began to lose its attraction.”

I’m all for interviewing living legends like Captain Kirk and others of that ilk; that, and I’m glad that Chris will get to do that. Maybe Wallace can take up the place that Larry King left off, where his show was more about entertainment than news, and that fits where Wallace is right now in his life.

Because we all know that CNN has not been about news for over a decade — now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense that Chris jumped over there.
