The White House has been on super spin mode for a lot of issues since Joe Biden was installed in office. They have saved the extra fast spin for the issue of defunding the police and now ignoring the reason for gun violence that is sweeping some areas of the country. Now that this is becoming an issue and is showing up in polling as a bad thing for the Democrats for the midterms next year, the “defund the police” crowd is trying an oldie but goodie from the nonsense bag of tricks:
Flat out lie.
As my colleague Sister Toldjah wrote here yesterday (Peter Doocy Was Having None of Jen Psaki’s Spin on Biden Admin’s Wild Claim of GOP ‘Defunding the Police’), this narrative is not going well.
From that article…
8 months later, Democrats apparently are now trying to shake their reputations as proponents of defunding the police off on Republicans. Over the weekend, Biden advisor Cedric Richmond told Fox News that lack of Republican support for bloated Democrat COVID “relief” bills was proof that it was the GOP and not Democrats who wanted to defund the police:
“Let’s talk about who defunded the police. When we were in Congress last year trying to pass an emergency rescue plan for cities that were cash-strapped and laying off police, it was the Republicans who objected to it. … They defunded the police. We funded crime intervention and a whole bunch of other things.”
It was an absolutely foolish comment to make, and Fox News reporter Peter Doocy and Jen Psaki sparred over it during today’s White House press briefing. Not surprisingly, Psaki seemed to agree with Richmond’s point and, also not surprisingly, Peter Doocy called her and the administration out on it.
That really is some amazing spin if you think about it. How hard did the White House Press Office laugh their kiesters off after floating that idea you have to wonder.
Thankfully, there is a former top cop of a major city who is refuting the nonsense of the Defund The Police movement and also laying waste to the notion that guns are the problem for the rise in crime.
The former top cop in Detroit, James Craig recently spoke out on the “gun causes crime” view and he was very direct in how he sees it. From Katie Pavlich over at Townhall…
But newly retired Detroit Police Chief James Craig argues the country has a criminal problem, not a gun problem and that demoralizing law enforcement has led to a crime wave.
“Conveniently, a lot of the issues are left out, and I’ve seen this, criminals are emboldened. You talk about bail reform, it’s a miserable failure,” Craig said during a recent interview with The Next Revolution. “We have to start supporting the men and women who do the tough job.”
“It’s ridiculous, it’s surface and we’re not going to the root,” he continued. “We don’t have a gun problem in America. What we have is a criminal problem…criminals don’t follow the law. They’re going to get guns, so what do we want to focus on? Getting guns from law-abiding citizens?…it’s not about guns, it’s about criminals who have guns and they don’t get the guns legally. That’s the bottom line.”
Bingo.
Criminals are gonna criminal as the saying goes. Actually, I just made that up but you get my point.
Guns are a convenient tool for criminals to use to commit a crime. However, they will use anything at their disposal when they have made up their mind to break the law. On the opposite end, someone who is trained with a gun to protect themselves is actually the best deterrent to a criminal wanting to do any amount of harm to a person or property. Even with a fully-funded police force, they can not be everywhere at every moment.
As the former Chief of Police in Detroit said above “We don’t have a gun problem in America. What we have is a criminal problem…criminals don’t follow the law.” And the sooner the White House and their lackeys grasp that concept the sooner you might be able to start solving the issue.
Don’t count on that anytime soon, though. The Democrats made this bed during the 2020 election and now they realize it is a really lumpy mattress and they don’t like it. They will be getting less and less sleep as we march to November 2022 and quite frankly they earned every bit of the grief they will get for this.
No amount of spin will fix that.
