The most moderate Republican Governor the state of Michigan has had in close to 30 years, has been put into the crosshairs of criminal charges from a Democrat Attorney General it was announced earlier today. Reports leaked out that Governor Rick Snyder would be charged in the Flint Water Scandal that rocked his second term beginning in 2015. Attorney General Dana Nessel’s plans were leaked to the A.P. early Tuesday afternoon.

Former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, his health director and other ex-officials have been told they’re being charged after a new investigation of the Flint water scandal, which devastated the majority Black city with lead-contaminated water and was blamed for a deadly outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in 2014-15, The Associated Press has learned.

Two people with knowledge of the planned prosecution told the AP on Tuesday that the attorney general’s office has informed defense lawyers about indictments in Flint and told them to expect initial court appearances soon. They spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

The AP could not determine the nature of the charges against Snyder, former health department director Nick Lyon and others who were in his administration, including Rich Baird, a friend who was the governor’s key troubleshooter while in office.

No word yet if any of the Flint officials who initially approved this switch of taking water from Lake Huron instead of the Detroit Water and Sewer system, nor if any Obama administration officials are being charged. Flint officials rubber-stamped the switch and the Michigan DEQ and the United States EPA both dropped the ball on overseeing what the others were doing. There was more than enough blame to go around and six-years later it will be interesting to see what the evidence is and where it points.

Snyder has admitted that this was a huge misstep but has no clue to what the Michigan A.G. could be looking at in the way of charges here. According to the ex Guv’s attorney, they have not yet been clued into what Nessel plans to charge the former Guv with.

Snyder’s attorney, Brian Lennon, released a blistering statement, saying a criminal prosecution would be “outrageous.” He said state prosecutors have refused to “share information about these charges with us.”

“Rather than following the evidence to find the truth, the Office of Special Counsel appears to be targeting former Gov. Snyder in a political escapade,” Lennon said.

I will wait to see if any other indictments come down to any other government officials, from the Feds on down before I decide to agree with Snyders attorney Mr. Lennon on this being a political escapade.
