Lebron James Cares More About Championships Than Social Justice.

I’m going to borrow a phrase my friend Wayne Dupree to start this post off and say it is time for some #RealTalk so stop reading here if you get your feelings hurt easily.

The recent boycotts in sports this past week after the shooting of Jacob Blake are meant to send a statement that those in the sports world are taking a stand. I will dive into that overall subject in another post but here I will just focus on the pseudo leader of the social justice movement in the Chinese friendly N.B.A., Lebron James.

Lebron is arguably one of the best players to ever play the game of Chinese friendly hoops but he desperately wants to be considered the greatest of all time. Unfortunately, he will never be considered that unless he at least ties Michael Jordan’s record of SIX non-Chinese ( NBA didn’t bow down to the Chi-Coms back in Jordan’s day)  friendly  N.B.A. championships. With King James now checking in at the age of 35 his shot clock is running down on him getting those other three rings.

When the players announced that they were boycotting/postponing the games during the middle of the week according to the Insider , Lebron was pushing to boycott the remainder of the playoffs.

The remaining teams in the Disney World bubble held a meeting after all six NBA teams scheduled to play on Wednesday boycotted games to protest the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The boycotts began when the Milwaukee Bucks did not take the floor for Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic.

Shams Charania of The Athletic first reported — and it has since been reported by other NBA insiders — that both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers voted to boycott the remainder of the season. According to Charania, LeBron James left the meeting early and was followed by the remainder of the Lakers and the Clippers.

Canceling the playoffs as opposed to postponing a couple of games would have been a HUGE message as opposed to P.R. stunting.  Seems like cooler heads prevailed.

Allegedly Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics asked players what they would do if they canceled the games. Would they just go home and spend time with family or would they be willing to go and spend time in the violent streets of were these riots are occurring?

You all know the answer to that. and that is HELL NO.

So rationality prevailed and a compromise was reached with the owners to do these types of things…

*Set up a council of owners and players to discuss things.

*Get the teams to allow voting at basketball arenas

*Calling for justice for Jacob Blake

All great. Really. Particularly the last one being none of us know what the hell happened yet being all the FACTS have not come out to actually base an educated opinion.

Yet if Lebron ACTUALLY believed in all this than he would have happily walked away from the chance to win his 4th title. Lebron makes just over 35 million a year as a player and that does not include his endorsement deals so he sure as hell doesn’t need the dough.

Why would you throw a tantrum on Wednesday but agree to those things above on Thursday to continue playing? You seriously postponed games for that? Really?

He needs that title chance more than a true social justice win. The P.R. social justice win is just fine for now and that is why he will never be as great as Jordan.

The End.
