According to some people this new executive order from Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan is a “win” for the fine people of the Great Lake State. I’m thinking it is more mish mash confusion.

More than six weeks since Michigan’s first COVID-19 case confirmation, the state took a big step on Friday by loosening restrictions.

Backed by a plateauing of new cases, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has loosened restrictions on business and travel with a new stay-home order that will extend until May 15. It’s the first relaxing of rules since an emergency declaration was made March 10.

Michigan’s previous rules were among the country’s most restrictive due to the magnitude of COVID-19’s outbreak in the state. Upon the announcement earlier in April, citizens and lawmakers became more vocal of the governor’s decision, arguing it was adding a marginal benefit and unfairly hurting the state’s economy.

Of course, people were vocal. They were being told they could buy paint at one store and not another. That is not based on science but stupidity.

Under Governor Whitmer Executive Order 2020-59 we in Michigan now get to enjoy once again…

7. Exceptions.

a. Individuals may leave their home or place of residence, and travel as necessary:

1. To engage in outdoor recreational activity, consistent with remaining at least six feet from people from outside the individual’s household. Outdoor recreational activity includes walking, hiking, running, cycling, boating, golfing, or other similar activity, as well as any comparable activity for those with limited mobility.

Now the really amusing thing about this is JUST YESTERDAY you could walk around a golf course but you could not carry clubs on it. Today we can golf but in the Fox 2 Detroit story above I could not find the restriction in the E.O that listed this…

For those that would like to participate in outdoor activities, they can play golf and ride on motorized boats. However, golf carts are not allowed under the lessened restriction

No golf carts. THAT is now dangerous?

What in the hell is going on here?

People are applauding the Governor today, who yesterday were defending her for the nonsensical order of banning paint or gardening supplies being purchased from Home Depot but not from your local hardware store. Why are you people happy? Yesterday banning people from playing golf could get people killed but walking on the golf course was ok. Today playing golf is safe but using a golf cart on the course could get people killed.

You really can’t be serious?

Have the courage of your ever so changing weak-kneed convictions and tell people to stay at home because you care so much for them you don’t want them to die. Don’t change those well thought out views just because Gov. Whitmer said it is ok.

What about THE SCIENCE?

The simple fact is there is no science backing up these Hodge podges executive orders. These are being made up as we go along to split the difference and make people feel they are gaining something back they should have NEVER BEEN BARRED FROM DOING.

Those of you that are nodding along with these orders I feel incredibly sad for. You should always be questioning anything government officials come to you and say they want to do for you, no matter the party. Make them back up their claims and if they do, move forward knowing you kept them honest in what they claim is being done for you.

Otherwise, you will buy anything being sold to you and that includes that golfing with friends is safe but not with a golf cart.
