Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his prior comments are on a ROLL and it is a ton of fun to watch and listen too. This guy is a treasure trove of hits.
Bloomberg back in 2013, while he was still Mayor of New York City, defended his controversial policy of stop and frisk but also called teachers unions and civil libertarian groups “extremists” just like the NRA.
Ouch.
From Politico …
Michael Bloomberg has made it his late life’s mission to take on the National Rifle Association, calling the organization “shameful,” “dangerous” and extreme.
The problem now that he’s seeking the Democratic nomination? In his final year as New York mayor, Bloomberg compared two groups core to the Democratic base — a local faction of the American Civil Liberties Union and the New York City teachers union — to the NRA.
“We don’t need extremists on the left or the right running our police department, whether it’s the NRA or the NYCLU,” the then-mayor Bloomberg said of the New York Civil Liberties Union, in a 2013 speech in which he defended the city’s controversial stop-and-frisk policy.
Yeah, Mike, defending people’s rights and protecting one’s ability to defend themselves is so extreme. How did this guy ever get this wacky rich is a Lifetime movie begging to be made.
This is only the beginning of the onslaught of questionable things that Bloomberg has said that have become public. Now that he is rising in the polls the might of the Democrats machine will turn the fire on him. His 12 years as Mayor and all the stuff he has done since and before will be examined with a fine-tooth comb.
The interesting part to watch will be if the massive amount of money that Bloomberg has said he will spend in this election will be enough to fight off this public relations nightmare he has created over the past two decades.
Ticking off both groups like the ACLU and teachers unions which are both strong Democrat support bases with these comments means more apologies will need to be issued.
Will it be enough?
We will find out in about 3 months!!
