Now it all makes sense. Those scenes in Star Wars where a young Luke Skywalker is constantly whining to his Uncle and Aunt and Han Solo about everything. That wasn’t really acting it was just Mark Hamill channeling his inner whiner to his character.

Well done Hamill, well done.

In a move of very little consequence but nevertheless one that should be spoken about and quite frankly mocked. Mark Hamill has decided to QUIT Facebook over Facebook not agreeing to “monitor” political ads. While that idea is bad enough in of itself I’m sure Hamill really means banning candidates he doesn’t like.

Not George Orwell-ish 1094 at all there Mark.

According to the BBC…

In a tweet, the celebrity accused the firm’s chief Mark Zuckerberg of having valued profit over truthfulness.

It followed its decision to let politicians run adverts that contain lies on the social network.

The firm has said that it does not believe decisions about which political ads run should be left to private companies.

I love how he goes the self-deprecating route on this. If it is a really no big deal then maybe Hamill should have just left instead of making an announcement like he was a plane departure at an airport.

Here is the whole problem with Mark’s theory of “checking” ads.

Right now on Facebook, you can’t get a damn human to explain why some things get taken down that might be Terms of Service violations and why other things don’t. You use FB and take a roll of the dice on a great many things. So if Zuck and crew decided to do this who in the hell is going to be in charge of it? Will they explain every decision they make publicly? Will they take to Facebook Live and take questions from people who can logically argue that the ad is not false?

Nope. You will just have an invisible council of Jedi’s who will make decisions based most likely on personal biases. Hamill knows this and also knows that those bastards will most likely think progressivism and socialism are great things.

They, of course, aren’t.

Luckily, for now, Facebook is taking the correct action…

Facebook declined to comment in reaction to Mr Hamill’s post, but defended its policy in a post on Thursday.

“In the absence of regulation, Facebook and other companies are left to design their own policies,” wrote Facebook’s director of product management, Rob Leathern.

“We have based ours on the principle that people should be able to hear from those who wish to lead them, warts and all, and that what they say should be scrutinised and debated in public.”

This is why happens in a free country. If Candidate X says something wrong about candidate Z than Mr. Z can breakdown why it is wrong and accuse his opponent of a whole host of things. Possibly one of them being that he/she thinks Mark Hamill is Oscar Worthy as a whiney brat from outer space.

The system we have is not perfect but there is no system that is. Yet, people like Mark think that giving control to a far away government or to social media executives is a much better idea than letting these things be hashed out in the real world instead of people far far away and are mostly faceless.

Facebook won’t miss Hamill one bit but the country itself will be harmed by the authoritarian thing she supports. We need less of jackbooted Storm Troopers enforcing oppressive edicts from self-declared Emperors in another part of the country.

Hamill should know better.

He should also just stick to acting like he is whiny and stops being whiny. We all would be better off for it.
