Thankfully, now that most of that World War III stuff with Iran has been averted, we can get back to what really matters in the world: Royal family members who don’t have “actual” jobs warring with each other.

In what has to be the most shocking thing to hit the British royal fun house since the last shocking thing (something to do with a guy named Epstein who did not hang himself) to plague the taxpayer-funded soap opera from Whales, comes news that Harry and Meghan want out of the circus known as the “Royal Family” and to make their own dough.

You do have to admire these kids’ spunk.

According to the BBC, this is a damn mess in the making.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they will step back as “senior” royals and work to become financially independent.

In a statement, Prince Harry and Meghan also said they plan to split their time between the UK and North America.

The BBC understands no other royal – including the Queen or Prince William – was consulted before the statement and Buckingham Palace is “disappointed”.

Senior royals are understood to be “hurt” by the announcement.

Last October, Prince Harry and Meghan publicly revealed their struggles under the media spotlight.

In their unexpected statement on Wednesday, also posted on their Instagram page, the couple said they made the decision “after many months of reflection and internal discussions”.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

This is the clearest indication that even Royals are susceptible to everything that other people who have not had to work really hard and have not achieved anything but win awards for breathing are. That’s right millennials, we are looking at you.

The documentary that was done on them last year where a camera crew followed them around on a trip they did not pay for to Africa was really the first sign they were not happy. In the ITV documentary, the royal couple complained about the scrutiny of being “royals” and new parents. Being new parents can be rough, of course, when you have to work and find daycare along with balancing everything else out in life. I’m taking a shot in the dark here and thinking they might have that covered.

The second part about the tabloid’s scrutiny is a bit more confusing. Harry not only grew up in the spotlight but has been trained in the art of how to handle it and let it roll off your back. Meghan, having been an actress back in the United States, was no stranger to the spotlight and scrutiny and praise that comes with that.

Did they both not think this through before getting hitched?

The speculation of a feud between Harry and the heir to the throne, his older brother William, has added to the couple’s unhappiness. Just fake being happy at those events and don’t leak stuff to the press. You don’t have to see the other royals all the time so that should be a cinch.

If you think I’m being harsh, then consider this: How many people know what Queen Elizabeth’s sibling(s) are doing or have ever done? Until recently, everyone forgot that Charles had any sibs but Andrew went and messed that up by being pals with Jefferey Epstein. Harry and his bride would be required to do some family photo ops and then go back to your paid-for digs and show up occasionally and wave.

Is it really that hard?

That they both decided to announce this on Instagram without telling anyone in the family that they planned on doing this is the most millennial thing anyone born into wealth could do. Now, they want to step away from the family biz and go and lecture the rest of us about how not to live the very lifestyle that they have because we will…

Pollute the planet while going on much shorter and less frequent vacations than they do. Also, use paper straws and whatever silly thing is en vogue at any moment while they do the opposite, being as they can.

There is a reason we threw off the crown 230 plus years ago and these two just reassured me and millions of others that, while we love the British, we can do without the weird family drama being paid for by us.

I lastly advise all Royals (male or female) of the United Kingdom in the future to also NOT date American women. We see how it went for Harry’s relative the former King of England Edward VIII after he abdicated the throne to marry an American divorcee and now Meghan. Take a page out of the Guess Who and listen closely to the song “American woman” where the lyric goes…

American woman, stay away from meeeeeeeee
American woman, mama let me beeeeeeeeeee.

Your Royal Life will be easier.
