The tangled web we weave is something to admire every once in a while.
As my colleague, Bonchie here at Red State wrote yesterday Hillary Clinton Attacks Tulsi Gabbard And Gets Absolutely Wrecked In Response it seems the lovely wife of Bill stepped in it. Badly.
Now, a fierce critic of Trump is saying that Hillary Clinton’s attack on Gabbard will help…..The Donald.
Say what?
According to the Washington Examiner…
Rep. Justin Amash said that Hillary Clinton is helping President Trump’s chances at being reelected by calling 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard a “Russian asset.”
Amash, a 39-year-old Tea Party conservative who left the Republican Party over Trump, tweeted that Clinton’s comments were going to “drive many people into the arms of Donald Trump.”
“The thing we know for sure is that Hillary Clinton is a Donald Trump asset,” the Michigan congressman said late Friday night.
“Hillary does — and did — drive many people into the arms of Donald Trump. Her attack on Tulsi does likewise,” he continued. “In my district, Trump did worse than any Republican in modern times and still beat Clinton by a fair margin. Many Ds in the Midwest rejected her. I didn’t vote for either one.
Now, I have to scratch my head on this one and really think here. Hillary Clinton is a Donald Trump asset? Is this in the bearded Spock alternative universe on Star Trek?
Hillary Clinton attacked Tulsi without naming her but we know who she was talking about. Now, Hillary and Trump are not besties last time I checked. Tulsi and The Donald are also not on the same page on about 90% of things.
One of the few things that Gabbard and Trump have in common is that they have both spoken about America’s never-ending involvement in foreign conflicts and wanting to end them. I’m pretty sure that is also a stance that Amash has.
So people that are for Trump in that regard are already for Trump.
Tulsi Gabbard has garnered a lot of attention for this attack by Clinton and her well-crafted response to Hillary. I’m sure she will gain some new supporters, however, she is not going to be the Democratic nominee for President.
So unless she is, I don’t see how this drives people to Trump. Even then I still don’t see it.
People who dislike Hillary, dislike Hillary. I have seen no data that suggests that people voted for Trump just on the basis they hate Hillary. Trump won traditionally blue-collar states like Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin based on his take on how manufacturing jobs were going overseas or to Mexico. People disliking Hillary might have been a factor but it was a small one. The others who are just going to vote for a Republican over a Democrat are going to do that regardless. Just like they voted for Romney and McCain etc etc….
I know that I’m not a Washington D.C. insider so I’m going to have to have this conspiracy theory explained to me Seasme Street style because it is alluding me fiercely.
