This could be YUGE.

According to Politico  the White House is quietly preparing a short list of candidates to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg if she were to decide to retire.

The White House is reaching out to political allies and conservative activist groups to prepare for an ailing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s possible death or departure from the Supreme Court — an event that would trigger the second bitter confirmation battle of President Donald Trump’s tenure.

The outreach began after Ginsburg, 85, on Monday missed oral arguments at the court for the first time in her 25 years on the bench. The justice, who was nominated to the court by President Bill Clinton in 1993, announced in late December that she underwent a surgical procedure to remove two cancerous growths from her lungs.

As I wrote here last week  Ruth Bader Ginsburg Misses Oral Arguments we should all be praying and hoping for her to recover. If you aren’t, you are doing humanity wrong.

However, the President is the one who picks the Supreme Court nominees of his choosing and there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting your ducks in a row just in case. This would be Trump’s 3rd SCOTUS pick which is highly unusual for a first-term President only in his 3rd year.

This also validates the argument of the Pro Trump people who in 2016 argued that picking the replacement for Antonin Scalia needed to go to a Republican even if it was someone who was incredibly flawed as a candidate as Trump.

As a conservative, you may not like the style of the President yet nearly everyone on the R side of the aisle has approved of the Supreme Court selection of the 45th POTUS so far.

If RBG does decide to step down be prepared for a more bruising battle than the Kavanaugh hearings. This would tip the court with three judges nominated by Trump who would be all under 60 ( most likely) and will be on the bench for possibly two decades or more.

Buckle up, 2019 is just getting started.
