Well…they are.
Now you just read that headline and you are wondering what in the world do a bad comic actor and a terrorist have in common?
That is an extremely fair question.
For starters, one is not really funny and the other is currently dead and also not funny.
Yesterday was the 17th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the heroic effort of those aboard United Flight 93 to ditch in a field instead of hitting the Capitol or the White House.
On my show Bourbon On The Rocks, I do a segment called “TODAY IN HISTORY” and in that segment, I read off things that happened on the day I’m broadcasting.
Yesterday, of course, led off with the 2001 attacks on America. Yet also mentioned was a plea by Bin Laden in 2007 to rally the troops on the 6th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on American soil. When I say “rally,” I mean recruit also.
He wanted more people to go martyr themselves for his cause.
Jim Carrey, of course, is a “comedic actor” whose most famous role was that of a pet detective. He is also a Canadian and we love Canadians (until recently when the renegotiation of NAFTA dragged on) so what could these two have in common?
They both demand YOU sacrifice while they dictate the terms of how you do it.
Osama Bin Laden demanded that others join the glorious cause of martyrdom to bring the infidel, The United States, and her allies, to their knees via suicide attacks. Notice he did not actually lead the charge on this front and refused to join the non-oxygen breathing brethren until a United States special forces unit caught up with him in 2011 hiding out.
He didn’t want to lead by example evidently.
Jim Carrey, however, is still an oxygen thief and converting that valuable molecule to carbon dioxide on a daily basis. He showed off his thinking skills last Friday on the show that conservatives love to hate but watch anyway — “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO.
The ironic thing is that HBO is a subscription channel that you have to pay extra…….nevermind.
According to The Federalist, Jim states the Democrats have to embrace their inner Bernie or socialism.
Jim Carrey said Democrats should embrace their socialist beliefs on Bill Maher’s “Real Time” Friday, rather than apologize for them.
“We have to say yes to — socialism — to the word and everything,” Carrey told a nodding Maher. “We have to stop apologizing.”
Addressing Republican claims that socialism has failed in Canada and elsewhere, Carrey added:“I grew up in Canada, OK, we have socialized medicine,” he said. “And I’m here to tell you that this bullshit line that you get on all of the political shows from people is that it’s a failure — the system is a failure in Canada. It is not a failure, and I never waited for anything in my life. I chose my own doctors. My mother never paid for a prescription — it was fantastic.”
Well, according to a Huff Po article from last year, all is not that groovy in Canadian healthcare — Why Canadians Are Increasingly Seeking Medical Treatment Abroad — but that is for another article.
Jim wants the Democrats to EMBRACE socialism, which is by definition of Webster’s dictionary this:
Definition of socialism
1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2 a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property
b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Mr. Carrey has some dough to share. Collectively.
Jim Carrey net worth: Jim Carrey is a Canadian-American actor, comedian and producer who has a net worth of $150 million.
So what gives?
The very thing that Jim Carrey advocates by definition dictates that he give up his goods and wealth and share. Also, he does not get to determine how his wealth is shared, just that it is.
Sounds fun right?
So what is stopping him from stepping up to the plate and giving it all away? Why did Carrey not make a stunning declaration on the Maher show and say he was giving all his money away and ask Bill and everyone else clapping like a seal in the audience to do the same?
Because that is not how it works with hypocrites.
They demand you live by rules which are for your own good but they will skirt those very cumbersome edicts to lead by an unethical example.
Jim Carrey and Osama Bin Laden have nothing in common other than they subscribe to political philosophies that demand you live how you are told and do it for your own good.
They both, from the comfort of their couches, breathe the rarified air of people who should not have to live like those they demand things from.
Also, they both aren’t funny.
