For years, we Americans were told that the FBI's "Russia collusion" investigation into Donald Trump was a sober, apolitical response to what appeared to be a grave breach of national security.
A Tuesday morning document release by the White House blows the whole charade to smithereens once and for all.
We know all about former FBI director James "86 47" Comey and his sham Crossfire Hurricane investigation into supposed collusion between Russia and Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. Former President Barack Obama had his fingerprints all over that politically-motivated witch hunt.
We're now learning that Crossfire Hurricane was extended into something called "Oxferd Comma" after Comey was fired by Trump on May 9, 2017. Oxferd Comma was eventually transferred to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe, which was shut down after it was determined the investigation had no merit.
Journalist John Solomon, who serves as the chairman of the White House Government Transparency Task Force, was the first to announce that a treasure trove of Oxferd Comma documents had been declassified and released by the Trump White House: "This morning, the White House Government Transparency Task Force released newly declassified documents exposing an FBI criminal investigation code-named Oxferd Comma. Solomon proceeded to unravel the sordid tale of Oxferd Comma in a series of tweets, and the odious duo of Pete Strzok and Lisa Page makes an appearance.
These documents show the FBI criminally investigated President Donald Trump beginning in May 2017 on the theory that he was acting as a Russian agent when he fired ex-FBI Director James Comey for mishandling the Clinton email case.
At the time the FBI opened this probe its agents had already debunked the Steele dossier. Agents had already cleared Mike Flynn of collusion. Pete Strzok wrote Lisa Page there was ‘no big there, there.’ The bureau was alerted Carter Page was a CIA asset and not a Russian stooge.
And one of the lead agents on the case, William Barnett, had concluded he had seen no evidence of Russian collusion and wanted off the case because the investigation had become a bad game of Clue. And despite all that, the FBI still opened Oxferd Comma and used it as part of a campaign to get Special Counsel Robert Mueller appointed.
Remarkably, the man who knew the real reason why Comey was fired for violating DOJ policy in the Clinton probe — then-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein — allowed the case to go forward and authorized Mueller’s appointment.
And, no, there's no discernible explanation for the "oxferd" spelling, but it's likely down to a misspelling somewhere deep within the documents.

President Trump has yet to comment on the document dump, but he doesn't really need to say anything because it's all there in black and white: The FBI knew the Russia-collusion narrative was falling apart and they knew the evidence against Trump was complete garbage, but they opened yet another sham investigation into him anyway.
