Despite appearances to the contrary – not to mention the very best efforts of Gov. Abigail Spanberger and her fellow Virginia Democrats – there still is some sanity and respect for the Constitution remaining in the Old Dominion. For example, a circuit court judge out of Washington County has expanded an injunction against the assault weapons ban that went into effect on July 1 to include the entire commonwealth.
Judge Jeffrey L. Campbell of the Washington County Circuit Court issued a letter opinion late Tuesday that amended his June 29 letter opinion in the case of Santolla, et al. v. Katz, et al. In his June opinion, Campbell entered a preliminary injunction against the law that applied to the Virginia State Police and a handful of jurisdictions involved in the litigation. This meant that the Democrats' ban on "assault weapons" and high-capacity magazines went into effect on July 1 for most of the state.
RedState previously reported on the growing number of commonwealth's attorneys and sheriffs who publicly stated they would not enforce the ban, believing it to be a direct violation of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. However, a significant number of law enforcement agencies in the commonwealth did not opt out of enforcing the gun grab, meaning millions of Virginians risked being arrested this past week for selling, transferring, manufacturing, or importing certain semi-automatic firearms categorized by Democrats as “assault firearms.”

There was a lot of ambiguity surrounding what exactly was meant by "assault firearms" – the left isn't particularly known for their keen knowledge of guns and gun rights – so enforcing the new law likely stymied law enforcement officials. Those officials can now give a sigh of relief over Judge Campbell's order that the injunction be applied statewide, meaning Virginians will once again be able to buy and sell things like AR-15s and magazines with capacities over 15 rounds in just a matter of days.

Virginia's Rebellion Has Officially Begun
The statewide injunction goes into effect on July 21 to allow adequate time for localities to be notified of the decision.
The assault weapon ban injunction entered is now clearly a statewide injunction effective July 21, 2026. All law enforcement is enjoined from enforcement of the law. Every jurisdiction. Every officer.

It is now clear and unequivocal that the injunction is statewide
Great job… pic.twitter.com/xtZF0IcMvq

Great job Senator Stanley. The entire Commonwealth is now covered by the protection of this order until such time as a higher court determines otherwise.
It bears mentioning that this particularly bad piece of legislation that Spanberger signed into law was spawned by State Senator Saddam Azlan Salim, a Democrat representing parts of Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. Salim is a Muslim immigrant from Bangladesh who arrived in the land of the free and apparently decided we had too many guns here. (And just wait until the next legislative session, when Salim attempts to make "Islamophobia" illegal in Virginia.)
Pour one out tonight for "Grabby Abby" Spanberger and her fellow Virginia Democrats, who once again find themselves the victims of a brutal beatdown by the courts. Hey, at least they had those three blissful weeks pretending the Second Amendment no longer exists in the Commonwealth.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
