Americans are waking up Monday to the tragic news that Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, were murdered Sunday in their Los Angeles-area home. As RedState's Bob Hoge reported Sunday evening, details are scant on what happened inside the Reiner's Brentwood home, but the couple apparently suffered fatal injuries that were "consistent with stab wounds."

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) held a rather chaotic press conference outside the Reiner residence late Sunday, but very few details were given about what had happened inside the house. Reports, which have yet to be confirmed by law enforcement officials, are surfacing that indicate the Reiners' son, Nick, may have slit his parents' throats after an argument Sunday afternoon. These reports also say that Nick Reiner is currently being interviewed by police.
If these reports are true, then it looks like the couple's daughter, Romy, found their bodies and told police to question her brother. While the LAPD declined to name the victims in the Brentwood house, saying official confirmation would come from the coroner's office, the family released a statement confirming the deaths.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” Reiner’s family said in a statement.
Horrified fans of Rob Reiner – including many whose politics were at odds with the director's far-left views – flocked to social media to share memories and quotes from their favorite Reiner movies. One post that stood out came from Andrew Kolvet of Turning Point USA, who shared that Reiner had offered quite wise and compassionate words following the public assassination of Charlie Kirk.
In an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, in what was likely one of his final interviews, Reiner said the shooting was "an absolute horror,” and added, “I unfortunately saw the video of it and it’s beyond belief what happened to him and that should never happen to anybody. I don’t care what your political beliefs are. That’s not acceptable."
Rob Reiner responded with grace and compassion to Charlie's assassination. This video makes it all the more painful to hear of he and his wife's tragic end. May God be close to the broken hearted in this terrible story. pic.twitter.com/07g2EFu8Ha

Reiner also spoke of how moved he was by Erika Kirk's ability to forgive her husband's accused murderer.
“What his wife said at … the memorial they had was exactly right. And totally I believe — you know I’m Jewish — but I believe in the teachings of Jesus and I believe… in forgiveness,” Reiner said.
“And what she said to me was beautiful — you know she forgave his assassin and I think that that is admirable.”
These comments might come as a surprise to those who were used to Reiner's decidedly hard-left takes on politics. Many who worked with Reiner are using social media to recount that he was always lovely to work with and never let politics get in the way of friendship.
Interestingly, it appears that Reiner's wife, Michele Singer, photographed Donald Trump for the book jacket of his bestseller, The Art of the Deal.
