As RedState's Rusty Weiss reported earlier Sunday, Australia's famed Bondi Beach was the scene of what appears to be a targeted attack on Jews who had gathered there to celebrate the first night of Chanukah. Video has emerged of at least two gunmen taking aim at the revelers from a nearby pedestrian bridge, and the latest reports are that 11 victims have died and another 29 sustained serious injuries. One of the gunmen was apparently killed and the other wounded.

From Rusty:

The shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. local time in Archer Park near the Bondi Pavilion, where over 1,000 people had gathered for an event known as "Chanukah by the Sea 2025."

The event was to celebrate the first night of the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah, but two armed men broke the peaceful celebration when they began to open fire from a bridge.

Amidst the devastating carnage, however, a story of great heroism is emerging – and it was all caught on video. The amazing footage that's going viral on social media shows a man sneak up behind one of the gunmen who had moved from the bridge and positioned himself behind a tree. The apparently unsuspecting terrorist was unleashing a barrage of bullets when the man grabbed the shooter around the neck from behind and wrestled the rifle away from him.

Extended video shows the terrorist slinking back toward the pedestrian bridge where another gunman appears to be shooting either at the attendees of the Chanukah by the Sea 2025 event or at the hero who now had possession of the rifle and was taking refuge behind the tree (or both). Australian media have identified one of the terrorists as Naveed Akram.

Family members have identified the hero as Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old father of two who runs a fruit stand in the area. According to a cousin, al Ahmed had been shot twice during the confrontation and was undergoing surgery. “We do hope he will be fine. He’s a hero 100 percent,” the relative commented.

Some reports indicate the two gunmen carried out the massacre unchallenged for up to twenty minutes. One survivor recounted, "Twenty minutes with four policemen there — nobody give fire back. Nothing, like they are froze,” he said, adding, "Four policemen there didn’t give fire back. I don’t understand why." When asked who was being targeted by the gunmen, the survivor responded, "Everyone. Jews. Men, old, kids, everyone. It doesn’t matter."

Australian Mass Shooting

At least 12 are dead & 29 injured after Naveed Akram — a radical Islamic terrorist — opened fire on a Hanukkah celebration.

Don’t let the media whitewash this:

This is terrorism.

This is radical Islam.

Stop allowing migrants from countries that hate US.

Also, the gentleman in white that disarmed one of the shooters is a hero that should be celebrated across the world.

Sadly, it appears one of the Bondi Beach survivors also survived the October 7 horror. Arsen Ostrovsky wrote on X that he had "lived through Oct 7th," but "never imagined I’d see this horror in Australia."

This is developing story. Stay with RedState for all the latest.
