We are now just nine days away from Election Day here in Virginia, and the candidates are crisscrossing the commonwealth trying to rally their bases and nab independent voters.
The Republican ticket – Winsome Earle-Sears (governor), John Reid (lieutenant governor), and Jason Miyares (attorney general) – appeared together Saturday at CPAC Latino event held in Northern Virginia. Gov. Glenn Youngkin was also in attendance, and party unity seemed to be the theme of the night.
A fun moment from last night.

It’s been 271 days since I left my job (and paycheck) so that I could try to save my home state from the bad things that have wrecked so many other wonderful places.
What a journey this has been!

On the other hand, the Democrat ticket – Abigail Spanberger (governor), Ghazala Hashmi (lieutenant governor), and Jay Jones (attorney general) – seem to be keeping their distance from one another. Hilariously, Spanberger made a big deal of debuting her newly rewrapped campaign bus ahead of the second-to-last weekend before the election. She's very proud of it.

Eagle-eyed observers noticed, however, that something – or someone – was missing from the razzle-dazzle messaging of the new bus: Jay Jones.

Ghazala Hashmi also didn't make the cut. Jones and Hashmi had been prominently featured on the previous iteration of the campaign bus, but it looks like Spanberger would rather not be associated with her running mates.

Jay Jones, of course, is political poison after his text messages from 2022 were unearthed and showed Jones had a homicidal fantasy about former Speaker of the House of Delegates Todd Gilbert, Republican, and Gilbert's family. Spanberger condemned the texts, but couldn't bring herself to call for him to drop out of the race. She'll just erase him from her bus and go on her merry way.
Hashmi has done a good job of hiding her radical self away from the public for much of the campaign. When she does pop up, she's likely to be found with the "No Kings" crowd or happily campaigning next to an upside down American flag. She also "doesn't care" if students are exposed to sexually explicit materials at school, so there's that.
Not that Abigail Spanberger isn't in total alignment politically with both Jay Jones and Ghazala Hashmi, but it's clear she'd prefer to spend the last days of the campaign pretending the other two don't exist. And they certainly don't exist on her campaign bus, other than being thrown under it.
How Winsome Earle-Sears spends the last few days of the campaign remains to be seen. As RedState previously reported, Virginia Democrats, who control both the House of Delegates and the state Senate, are calling a special legislative session Monday afternoon to get congressional redistricting underway before the 2026 midterms. Earle-Sears, in her role as sitting lieutenant governor and president of the state Senate, is not allowed to campaign or fundraise while the legislature is in session. It is currently unclear how long the special session will last.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
