Richmond Times Dispatch political columnist Jeff Schapiro might be regretting his post on X in which he attempts to zing Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, but instead insults the USA women's golf team. Then again, he probably doesn't since attacking a Republican at the expense of the achievements of female athletes seems to be right in his wheelhouse. And, let's face it, most of the modern media's wheelhouse.

Here's what went down. On Thursday, Gov. Youngkin made an appearance with the USA women's golf team at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, VA. The team was in town to play in the prestigious Solheim Cup, which pits the best female golfers from the US against the best female golfers from Europe. Youngkin posted a video to X showing him, along with the ladies' golf team, chanting, "USA! USA!"

A moment any emotionally stable Virginian or American should be proud of, right? Apparently not when you're a hyper-partisan hack "journalist" like Jeff Schapiro. This allegedly grown man weirdly decided that attacking Youngkin was worth the misogynistic dismissal of the accomplishments of female athletes. 

Riley Gaines was all over it. 

Yes, Schapiro reduced these accomplished women to a "cheering squad." Gross, indeed.

What exactly did the USA women's golf team do wrong here? They dared to step foot in Virginia and appear with the commonwealth's governor without the express permission of a Richmond Times Dispatch political columnist, apparently. Worse yet, they smiled and cheered for their country. These things are simply not done when you're a leftist like Jeff Schapiro.

There's a lot of different ways Schapiro could have handled this. He could have applauded these women for reaching the pinnacle of their sport. He could have wished them well as they headed into an international competition proudly representing their country. He could have celebrated the commonwealth having the honor of hosting the competition and appreciated the positive exposure and extra revenue that came with it. 

But why do that when, as Riley Gaines states, a cheap political point could be made?

Two things come to mind here: 1. When these people tell you who they are, believe them. 2. You don't hate the media enough. They certainly hate you. 

It's Schapiro's comment about the vest that reveals what's truly at play here. Youngkin is well known for wearing a personalized zip-up vest when he hits the campaign trail or is doing informal visits with communities across Virginia. The vest is Youngkin, and here's the rub: Glenn Youngkin wasn't supposed to win. 

Jeff Schapiro is still seething that Glenn Youngkin sent Terry McAuliffe packing three years ago. In the meantime, Youngkin has returned a modicum of sanity to the Old Dominion, and, well, that's just not acceptable to the left. 

This is just a guess, but Schapiro is likely still reeling over Youngkin's recent executive order on election security, which removed over 6,000 non-citizens from the voting rolls. How is Schapiro's candidate supposed to win on November 5th when the playing field is even?

Is it a big deal that a small time columnist missed the mark by a wide shot with a tweet? Probably not. But he does use "RTD" in his X handle, which typically means it's being used in an official capacity. So, it's yet another reminder that the media hates all things conservative and Republican. And they don't like women that much, either. Certainly not women athletes, unless, of course, they were born with male parts. 

These women were not political pawn pieces until Jeff Schapiro reduced them to that in the most insulting of ways. He deserves all the scorn and disdain being heaped on him.
