Apparently, the flip camera was the metaphoric house that destroyed the anti-Semitic Wicked Witch of the White House press corps. Her “retirement” was announced by her employer, Hearst News Service, this morning following last week’s debacle resulting from Thomas telling the Jews in “Palestine” to “get the hell out” and “go back to Germany and Poland.”
To any thinking person, this is not so much a retirement, but a way to fire the 274 year old reporter, who has been fading out of the print world for a while now.
Robert Gibbs offered his “rebuke” from the podium saying:
“Those remarks were offensive and reprehensible,” Gibbs said, noting that Thomas has apologized. Her sentiments “do not reflect certainly most of the people here and certainly not those of the administration.”
Here’s the thing about public apologies like that: They only come after you get caught. They hold no weight, because everyone knows that had you not been exposed for the adulterer/thief/anti-Semite that you are, you would have gone on your merry way and not given the situation a second thought. There is no reason to believe that Helen is even remotely apologetic for her comments.
The statement from the White House Correspondents Association reads like this:
But the incident does revive the issue of whether it is appropriate for an opinion columnist to have a front row seat in the WH briefing room. That is an issue under the jurisdiction of this board. We are actively seeking input from our association members on this important matter, and we have scheduled a special meeting of the WHCA board on Thursday to decide on the seating issue.
Personally, I find it hard to believe that eliminating the entire press corps from the briefing room will ever be seriously discussed.
