Rumor Has It: John Bolton Is About to Clean House at the National Security Council

As long as he’s got replacements for them, ready to go.

If you think things are about to calm down for awhile within the Trump Cabinet, think again. In an administration that has been complete chaos from the first day, nobody should be shocked to hear news of more shake-ups.

John Bolton, national security adviser pick #3 and the replacement for H.R. McMaster, is reportedly planning to gut the National Security Council, as soon as he’s officially installed.

In other words, if you got your job with the NSC, thanks to President Obama, don’t expect to have it much longer.

“Bolton can and will clean house,” one former White House official told Foreign Policy.

Another former official said any National Security Council officials appointed under former President Obama “should start packing their sh*t.”

So what’s the catch? Is it literally anyone who acquired their position during Obama’s tenure, or is there more to it?

What sources are saying is that Bolton intends to do away with anyone who isn’t seen as sufficiently loyal to Trump.

Foreign Policy reported that Bolton is planning to remove dozens of current officials, with a focus on those who have been “disloyal” to the president.

I don’t know what constitutes “disloyal,” but since Trump and his devotees have some sort of bizarre partisan fixation that leads them to feel anyone who held their position under Obama must be beholden to Obama, rather than to their job, then it must mean everybody he doesn’t like.

Just the firing of McMaster and hiring of Bolton seems to suggest that Trump is looking for someone who will agree with him on the Iran nuclear deal (actually, not a bad idea), and similar issues. McMaster was more inclined to stick with the deal. Bolton is not.
