This is a hilarious journey into the swirling vortex of mania that makes up the Trump universe.
For the NeverTrumpers (for purposes of accuracy, they’ll be called “conservatives” from here on out), President Trump’s omnibus bill veto fake-out was no surprise. There’s nothing in his past to support this notion that anyone should believe Donald Trump could be relied upon to govern as a small government pragmatist.
Trump will go with whatever the last person in his ear tells him to do, and after announcing that he would veto the $1.3 trillion boondoggle, over 2,200 pages that no one has had a chance to read, apparently Defense Secretary Jim Mattis got in his ear and told him about all the goodies for the military included in the bill, including pay raises for active duty service members.
That much I can get behind. I don’t think any conservative would object. However, it’s only a portion of the bill, and the debt Americans are being saddled with is an unsustainable path.
Trump spoke out of both sides of his mouth today, saying he was unhappy with the bill, but then touting the defense spending.
I thought one of the things his faithful acolytes believed of him was that he was a great deal maker? Couldn’t he have done a better job with this? It really seems like he just rolled over.
The reaction of Trump’s most faithful defenders has been a mixed bag of hilarious.
Some are just done. They’re defeated. Reality is sinking in.
MASSIVE DEFENSE SPENDING to induct transgenders & build BIG BEAUTIFUL walls … in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia.

GOOD GOD! Will @realDonaldTrump talk about ANYTHING but defense spending???? Per Obama: The 1980s called & they want their foreign policy back.

“ I will never sign another bill like this again”
Yeah, because you’ll be impeached.

CONGRATULATIONS, PRESIDENT SCHUMER!

Then there are those who can’t bring themselves to admit it was all a lie.
I can live with him signing this. I fully understand that now is not the time for this fight. I don't like it. But you don't always get everything you want.

Dems win again. But I don't blame @realDonaldTrump. I blame Ryan and McConnell.
They're useless. Absolutely useless.

And then there are those who are living on a different planet.
Our chances of attaining a SuperMajority in the Senate have just INCREASED, not decreased.
Democrat Senators in red states are sweating more today than a week ago.
We're in the 1st quarter of a 4 quarter game. Don't leave the stadium because we didn't score a touchdown.

I’m not looking forward to the debt. I know this is a horrible thing for our nation. Debt weakens us.
With that in mind, however, there’s a distinct feeling of vindication in seeing everything we conservatives said would happen actually happen, especially in light of all the abuse we’ve endured for doubting Saint Trump is who his defenders want us to believe he is.
We just need a 2015 do-over.
