I wondered when somebody in a position to influence the president would use the firing of Andrew McCabe to encourage more firings, and in particular, firings that would derail the Russia probe.

Well, here it is.

The Daily Beast reached out to President Trump’s personal lawyer, John Dowd, to get his reaction to the Friday firing of Andrew McCabe, as well as Trump’s gloating tweet.

The answer was a direct call to end the Russia probe.

“I pray that Acting Attorney General Rosenstein will follow the brilliant and courageous example of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility and Attorney General Jeff Sessions and bring an end to alleged Russia Collusion investigation manufactured by McCabe’s boss James Comey based upon a fraudulent and corrupt Dossier,” Dowd then wrote.

He told The Daily Beast he was speaking on behalf of the president, in his capacity as the president’s attorney.

Dowd may be as nuts as his boss. He also sent this:

“What’s that smell in this room[Bureau}? Didn’t you notice it, Brick [Jim]? Didn’t you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room[Bureau}?… There ain’t nothin’ more powerful than the odor of mendacity[corruption]… You can smell it. Ok. Sure.

There’s a real lack of professionalism or self-control in the Trump White House, but if Dowd truly believes firing Mueller right now would be as simple and accepted as firing McCabe, then maybe his strengths aren’t really in the legal or political realm.

If Rosenstein were to acquiesce to Dowd and Trump’s wishes in this, especially in light of what Mueller has already uncovered, it would likely set off calls of obstruction and impeachment that not even the gutless members of the GOP Senate could ignore.

Every time Trump or one of his stooges suggest firing Mueller, it makes him look more desperate and guilty.

Sadly, for his sake, it appears that the president is emotionally incapable of just waiting this thing out, and those around him are not acting in his best interest, but rather, are catering to his paranoia.

Those same people – or at least the ones that don’t get swept up with him – will be the same ones that walk away from the wreckage, whistling “Dixie” and pretending they had no part in his downfall.

An old man could possibly go to prison because of all of this, and those people don’t care because they’re benefitting from that old man’s mania, at least, for today.

If anything gets Trump, it won’t be collusion, or any personal interaction with Russians. It will be the people around him (some of them family), and his clumsy, dumb attempts to make it go away.
